iploggerfilter's Introduction

iploggerfilter

This repo is for uBlock Origin/Adblock Plus and similar blockers to filter any site/subsite who's only purpose is to log your IP

Installation

Automatic (Adblock Plus, uBlock Origin)

Click this: (Subscribe)

Manual (uBlock Origin)

  • Go to uBlock Origin settings
  • Navigate to 3rd-party filters page
  • On the bottom of the page, there should be an textbox where there are a bunch of example urls
  • Copy and paste into the textbox:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/piperun/iploggerfilter/master/filterlist
  • Now there should appear a yellow button called "Parse", click it
  • Lastly you need to go to the top and hit the yellow "Update now" button

Manually updating (uBlock Origin)

It seems uBlock can be slow with updating the filter list itself, so if you want to stay up to the latest version as fast as possible you need to manually update it:

  • Go to uBlock Origin settings
  • Navigate to the 3rd-party filters page
  • There should be a custom filter named: Piperun's iplogger filter
  • Click on the "purge cache" on the right of the name
  • Now there should appear a yellow button at the upper left named: "Apply Changes", click it
  • It should now show the correct amount of filter items

Note: This list is only for any domain name which purpose is only to log your IP and or your browser, such as a site's only clear motive or having it as a hidden unnecessary functionality (like an URL-shortener) which can then be distributed to either a customer(s) or user(s) of that site, however, if the site specifically makes it clear that it only logs the IP for technical or security reason for the site itself and it doesn't invade people's privacy or security it will most likely not be added.

iploggerfilter's Issues

Small Error in Filter

Seems like on line 27 there is a missing $.

Line 27 should be ||quickmessage.us^$important ,
not ||quickmessage.us^important.

URL Shorteners

For some time, I often meet the bit.ly element in many sites. The problem is that now I have to disable the filter for many of them and evenmore, when I press a link that goes through a shortener like this, there is no option to 'temporary allow it' and the tab just vanish.

So, is there any way to disable just the "logging" features from these shorteners and still use them or this is impossible and they must be whitelisted? After all, it is important to have them in the filter?

Some sort of reorganizing??

As of now: contributors just adds domains where they felt fit,
we should organize them into either:

  • Sort by alphanumeric : basically all sites will now be sorted by their first alphabet
  • Sort by "owned sites" : basically all sites will be categorized into owner site -> owned sites, and alphanumeric within it

Why?
Since right now the list is in disorganized sometimes some domains are grouped together, sometimes it isnt, there should be a standard for others to know what to expect in how this list should be structured

Personally i vouch for sort by "owned sites" to allow us to get a clearer picture(and less confusing to insert then alphanumeric), if you greenlight this i am happy to start reorganizing
