VIDA 2014D Installer

Automated installer for VIDA 2014D (Volvo diagnostic software), targeting Windows 7 Pro through Windows 11, primarily for QEMU/KVM VMs. PowerShell 3.0+ with batch file entry points. Covers SQL Server Express, JDK replacement, patching, and post-install configuration. Idempotent — can be re-run safely after failures.

Prerequisites

  • OS: Windows 7 Pro – Windows 11 (x86 or x64)
  • PowerShell: 3.0+ (Windows 7 users: install WMF 5.1)
  • Admin rights required
  • VIDA 2014D ISO — download from svdns.info
    • SHA256: 200a0f8e4faca30c6c0e2aa7035be176c12ad3111658db777015e9fe2044c59f
    • Mount or burn to a drive; the installer scans drives D–Z for VIDA media automatically

Recommended VM Setup

This installer is designed primarily for virtual machines.

Works with QEMU/KVM, VirtualBox, or VMware. Mount the VIDA ISO as a CD/DVD drive in the VM.

Quick Start

install.cmd        # Full install (SQL Server, VIDA, JDK, patch, post-install)
patch.cmd          # Re-apply patch only
uninstall.cmd      # Full teardown (apps, SQL, registry, firewall, env vars)

All three auto-elevate to admin. The installer is idempotent — completed steps are skipped on re-run. A reboot is required after installation.

Installation Steps

1 01_preflight.ps1 Validates OS, RAM, .NET, disk space, IE, hosts file
2 02_sql_express.ps1 Installs SQL Server 2014 SP3 Express (skipped if present)
3 03_vida_setup.ps1 Launches VIDA DVD installer (interactive)
4 04_java_replace.ps1 Replaces bundled JDK with 7u80
5 05_vida_patch.ps1 Applies patch (license + class files)
6 06_post_install.ps1 Firewall rules, registry tweaks, desktop shortcut

Troubleshooting

  • Install failed mid-way: Re-run install.cmd — completed steps are skipped automatically.
  • Install log: Check C:\VIDAInstall\install.log for details on failures.
  • DVD not detected: Ensure the VIDA ISO is mounted/burned and accessible on a drive letter D–Z. The installer looks for setup.exe at a known path on each drive.
  • PowerShell version too low: Windows 7 requires WMF 5.1.

  • Each step script sources _common.ps1 and is idempotent
  • _common.ps1 provides download helpers with Wayback Machine fallback, DVD auto-detection, and SQL connection settings
  • Downloads use architecture-aware URL selection (x64/x86)

Contributing

  • All .cmd and .ps1 files must use CRLF line endings
  • If editing on Linux, run unix2dos on changed files before committing
  • .gitattributes enforces CRLF for these file types
