Make sure if the player has say 2 rubies that
(set: $inv to $inv - (a: "ruby")) will only take one ruby.
If not look for a way around that as the player may need duplicate items for a good reason. Such as lock picks.
make sure gold can't go below a value of 0.
This will just make it easier to work with gold in terms of coding.
It’s useful for a player to know where they are, but I want to think of fun examples for how this is useful.
Perhaps area dependent actions? Including for different classes.

Make a magic system that is class dependent.
So only certain classes can access certain spells, or none at all.
Find a way to easily list spells that a certain class can do and their magic cost so the player knows what options they have before they see them in passage.
Perhaps in the footer? Use an (if $class is X)[list these spells]
(if $class is Y)[list these spells]
(else:)[<!—do nothing—>]
