nitrotracker's Issues

Sample Start/End

Don't think it's already been said, but maybe a sample start/end function?
This way, you could edit a sample without having to make a bunch of copies
of the same sample with different trimming.

Crossfade option for sample editor

When you highlight over one of the loop points, a button appears to let you
smoothly fade the selection over the other loop point to get a seamless
loop. I think this feature was included in the original FastTracker II...

PSG support

make use of the DS's PSG for the original Game Boy sound.

jump to prev/next positions using hw buttons

the "crtl-like" button (seems to be mapped to left shoulder button on my
left-handed setup) with left/right (Y/A for left-handed) would jump to
next/previous position in the tune. This would allow copy/paste between
patterns without screen switching.

Parameter value ranges

Paramaters adjusted to 100 (panning centered at 50 instead of 64). It
would prevent confusion when playing Nitrotracker XM modules in other
players/programs.

File browser breaks when folders are deleted

If I start up NT and select a folder where my samples usually are, if this
folder is then moved or deleted whilst my card is connected to my computer,
NT tries to return to this folder after starting up again the browser will
be blank with no way to return to a parent folder. I resorted to deleting
the config in my case but maybe NT should default to the root if this happens?

RAM usage problem: Memory may get full when loading song/sample too big and NT may freeze

Sometimes when loading big songfiles or samples, memory bar goes to red and
re-loading another song or using ZAP-function won't necessarily free any
memory.

Sometimes NT freezes completely and needs power-off to work again. This can
happen even when loading songfiles that normally fits in DS memory.

Freeze problem can most easily be repeated when loading a big songfile
multiple times in a row. You can also see that when you load the same song
multiple times, it can use a different amount of RAM each time.

Tempo changes in a song can make the playback too fast

Most imported XMs made with other trackers work fine, but those with
variable tempo and BPM start to play too fast when speed changes. For
example, a song plays at 66BPM then it doubles to 133BPM and at that moment
NitroTracker plays it about ten times faster.

Backlight too dim/doesn't fade correctly after splash screen(Ninjapass cards)

The splash screen shows just fine, but once in the program, everything is
very dark. Aside this problem, everything within the program runs fine.
While in the program, you can bring up the on-screen keyboard, and this
runs at the correct backlighting.

Few users have reported this problem, they have used either Ninjapass
Evolution or Ninjapass X9 card. No other cards are known to have this problem.

RAM expansions / DSi RAM

Ability to use RAM expansions with Nitro Tracker and ability to take
advantage of extra RAM in DSi.

Cannot compile (requires to put libntxm in /home/tob/coding/dsdev/tob/libntxm/svn/libntxm)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Just put libntxm into any other folder
2. Update environment variable LIBNTXM
3. Run make.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It gets stuck on arm7/source/arm7_main.cpp with warning that it can't
include ntxm/ntxm7.h and many errors following

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Most recent SVN checkout / Windows Vista

Please provide any additional information below.
The bug is in the line 50 in arm7/Makefile
just change it from:
LIBDIRS :=  $(LIBNDS) /home/tob/coding/dsdev/tob/libntxm/svn/libntxm
to:
LIBDIRS :=  $(LIBNDS) $(LIBNTXM)

Inverted Scroll

"inverted scroll mode" So i can freely move to a position on the pattern
and the time/position-bar scrolls past. This way you can edit easily while
looping the pattern .

transpose button

A transpose button to change the note (+1 -1) of selected event(s).

Sustain point

Envelopes need a sustain point. When a note is triggered the envelope is
"playd back" until this point. On a note off, the envelope playback continues.

select multiple channels independently with the "sel" button

the "sel" button on pattern screen would select/deselect track on which the
cursor is positioned (dunno if your bloc system would allow this with
"track gap" tho, if not maybe it could aggregate the selection on tracks
between the first and last selected tracks without gap).

Original issue reported on code.google.com by [email protected] on 9 Apr 2010 at 10:04

Track scopes

Track scope view for NT. Clicking on a particular channel scope would mute it.

Sample Compression

Maybe you could include some kind of primitive compression method to help
save RAM? (e.g. a check-box in the sample editor called "compress" and
when you check or uncheck it a bar appears while it compresses the sample)

Sliding on the keyboard

Add an option to put the keyboard in "sliding mode" so the user can slide
over the keyboard with the pen.

Freeze when ping-pong looping a sample

- Load the "chrislody-dstort.xm" mod
- Click on the sample tab
- Be sure that the "dstort" sample (#1) is selected on the right side
- Click on the "loop type" tab and choose "ping-pong"
- Now NT is frozen

Color themes

Add support for user-defined color themes. Those could be loaded from a
text file.

Drawing effect parameters

You know how in alot of music programs they have a series of bars, under
the sequencer, that can be drawn into a shape to controle volume, cut, res,
and other effects? Well, I think it would be amazing to have some of these
automation features, and have them be drawn verticaly on each track, You
could have a small selector under the mute and solo tabs, and switch
between each effect. You could draw a resolution, then select the pan
effect and draw that in on top.

Use TOPDIR intead of PWD in arm9/Makefile when including tobkit libraries

line 60 in arm9/Makefile:
LIBDIRS := $(LIBDSMI) $(LIBNTXM) $(PWD)/tobkit $(LIBNDS)
change it to:
LIBDIRS := $(LIBDSMI) $(LIBNTXM) $(TOPDIR)/tobkit $(LIBNDS)

on some operating systems / configurations (mainly on Windows) it will not
include the correct directory thus resulting in compilation error.

Text input

Could you make the text input things (like entering a filename or a
instrument name) so that if you tap anywhere in the the text you've
already typed, the cursor goes there? Because, when you've typed a long
name and you realize you made a mistake back at the beginning, you have to
delete everything you just typed just to fix it!! Also, it would be nice
if when you type to the right edge of the text field, it would scroll
instead of limiting your amount of characters.

wave generators

how about some simple wave generations,. sin, square, saw, etc, a button
under the mic/record one would work,. it would open up a little synth
interface,. something like Stomper or what ever you can do easily

Support for opening .MOD -files

Add a feature so that Nitrotracker would be able to open and convert .MOD
-files for editing and saving them in .XM -format(as in Fast Tracker 2 and
Milkytracker).

If possible, support for opening .S3M(Scream Tracker 3) files too.

Loop Toggle

The position of the loop toggle is so close to the pause/stop buttons that
looking at the screen from an angle could have dramatic implications (this
happened last time I played live, accidentally stopped the tracker). Maybe
if there were a button combination or even if the looper were moved onto
the pattern window/anywhere else? That'd help a great amount for the live
setting.

Option to remove instruments

Doesn't seem too hard to add as a feature. This would save RAM by removing
unnecessary waveforms. The only way to remove an instrument currently is to
either overwrite it with another one, or to zap all of them.

Original issue reported on code.google.com by [email protected] on 8 Apr 2010 at 8:33

Sample zooming

Ability to zoom samples so that operations like setting loop-points and
other editing would be easier and more precise.
