Development

I'm not a web developer and this one is my first project, if you like the idea please contribute, any kind of feedback is welcome.
The frontend is build using NextJS with Tailwinds.
The backend uses FastApi and Redis.

I chose them because they are very simple and easy-to-use.

Setup local instance:

Docker

git clone https://github.com/PrivOci/ReTube
cd ReTube
docker-compose up -d

Manual:

Backend

Setup Redis for Caching

cd backend/redis
docker-compose up -d

FastApi

cd backend
pip3 install virtualenv
python -m virtualenv venv
venv\Scripts\activate
pip install -r requirements.txt

uvicorn main:app --reload or python ./main.py
API docs: http://localhost:8000/docs

Frontend

cd frontend
yarn
yarn run dev

retube's Issues

A minor improvement

Iā€™m too lazy to clone and create a pull request just for this, but util.py#L28-L32 could be simpler and flatter:

from itertools import count

part_to_seconds = lambda part, order: int(part) * pow(60, order)
return sum(map(part_to_seconds, reversed(time_parts), count())

Or, at the very least, util.py#L31 should be just:

sum += part * pow(60, count)

xā° = 1, and Python knows this.

Instances webpage

It would be helpful to have a webpage that users can check for what instances exist for ReTube (like Invidious' one), it can be hosted through GitHub Pages or a standalone site for example.
