An AI documentary about AI agents making films — produced entirely by AI agents.
Note
Framing & Intent: This project is not intended to produce a "filmmaking agent factory." Instead, it was an experiment to learn how AI agents collaborate on complex, shared project goals and work with materials (such as video, images, and audio) that are far less native to them than standard code and text.
For an internal Google Generative Media Hackathon, we took a recursive approach: multiple AI agent crews competed to produce short films using Google's generative media APIs (Veo, Imagen, Lyria, Chirp). A separate AI documentary crew observed the process and produced a documentary about it. The documentary is the submission.
The project ran on Scion, an AI agent orchestration platform. At peak, 40+ agents collaborated across hackathon film crews and a documentary production team — each with distinct roles (Creative Director, Technical Lead, Editor) and their own creative personalities. A website (built by agents) captures many of the artifacts and results of the process, this repo holds technical artifacts and details.
This repository contains the non-media production artifacts: the tools, playbooks, agent definitions, and documentation that powered the project.

The genmedia CLI suite wraps Google's generative media APIs into a set of composable command-line tools:
genmedia-video— Generate video clips via Veogenmedia-image— Generate images via Imagengenmedia-voice— Generate voiceover via Chirpgenmedia-music— Generate music and sound via Lyriagenmedia-assemble— FFmpeg-based assembly pipeline for final cuts

Built entirely by AI agents. This README was too.
