osip2019-containerisation-workshop's Issues

Lessons learnt

  • A good time for the comfort break is during the Docker session when participants are pulling the python image, as it takes some time for many people to download it from shared wifi.
  • The workshop as is, perfectly fit within the 2 hour time slot. If more time is available, would love to get hands on with Singularity or include more fun Docker examples such as the cat gifs application.

Feedback from OSIP 2019

Below is the feedback from participants at OSIP 2019 in the form of Pluses (something they liked about the workshop) and Deltas (something that they would change about the workshop).

Pluses

  • Got exposed to new useful tools.
  • Very nice and comprehensive material.
  • Good intro to Docker.
  • Very nice intro! Have heard about Docker quite a bit, but it is always a hurdle to get started. This workshop does a great job at it. (Loving the GitHub repo btw.)
  • Practical. Very Useful intro. I feel ready to start playing around with Docker and my own code.
  • Very clear. Beginner friendly.
  • Cool technology.
  • I learned about Docker, I have never heard about before and that will be probably useful in my future work. Thank you!
  • Very good conceptual explanation.
  • Nice to know about containerization. Also, I have now a list of Docker commands! :)
  • Very clear presentation. Very neat slides. Great examples. Very nice speaker.
  • It was clear and concise.
  • According to the objective of the talk: amazingly fine. Thanks :)
  • Perfect workshop in every way!
  • Very interactive and user friendly. Well organized.

Deltas

  • Not much...
  • Sometimes a bit slow.
  • Maybe one could pick some more "fun" examples? Apart from that it was really good!
  • A bit complex for more experimentalists (Docker, not the workshop). From an exerimentalist's perspective conda virtual envs are easier.
  • I could not install singularity on my computer. A little bit more time to solve issues with singularity and try it would be nice.
  • Only for python software/code?
  • Nothing.
  • Life demo a little bit fast.
