Can you clarify what you mean by this? I may have a similar problem. I can connect to the VPN from my phone, but it seems like traffic is not being routed through the PiHole.

When you connect to the VPN, what happens when you browse to 10.8.0.1 instead of a url?

How have you determined it doesn't go through the Pi-Hole? Are you using a full tunnel or split tunnel client configuration? Have you tested your DNS for leaks on https://www.dnsleaktest.com ? The README.md just got a huge update with information about how to test if things are working, and a better breakdown of how to set up full tunnel and split tunnel VPNs on both iOS and Android.

Went to an ad blocker test website and still getting ads. For some reason I dont think the vpn is going to pihole. Did it last night and only had split tunnel available for walkthrough.

If anything needs to be posted I can try. Working from android. Also setup a little different because im using AWS instead of GCS.

I do have the key icon and VPN seems to be working i think. Dnsleak shows that im close to a local town so not sure if its actually correct.

When I navigate to 10.8.0.1 it hangs and doesnt load. I also didnt use 10.8.0.1 in my .conf files. I was trying to use quad9. I probably shouldnt have strayed so far. Tomorrow I will try rebuilding my .conf files to the prescribed way.
