Could you please show/describe how you are running into an compatibility issues? what errors you are seeing? Does the examples at http://requests-oauthlib.readthedocs.org/en/latest/examples/examples.html work for you?

I don't think there should be any issues and the only thing I can think of is if maybe you are sending in token as a string when it should be a dict.

I tend to be using master of both libraries but did install oauthlib 0.4.2 with latest pypi version of requests-oauthlib (and requests 2.0) and it worked just fine for me.

You'r right I misunderstood the usage of the token parameter, I'm closing this ticket.
