The trick here is that the base LDAP path of the underlying LdapContextSource must be empty, otherwise this will probably not work.

It can be added as a method to LdapTemplate, or as a separate utility class that takes an LdapTemplate or an LdapContextSource as an argument.

But maybe this should be implemented as a more generic Root DSE information extractor, see:
