DailyHQ

A calm, cross-platform workspace for managing everyday life.

Build License: MIT Version 1.0.0

DailyHQ is an open-source personal life-management app for Windows and Android. It combines focused modules for planning, capturing ideas, tracking projects, learning, and reviewing how time was spent—without turning into a noisy productivity dashboard.

Download

Installers are published on the GitHub Releases page:

  • Windows: download DailyHQ-Setup.exe and run the installer.
  • Android: download DailyHQ-Android.apk and sideload it.

The Windows installer and Android APK are currently community builds and are not code-signed, so the operating system may display a warning.

Included modules

Module Purpose
Dashboard A compact overview and entry point into DailyHQ
Daily Tasks Plan a day, carry work forward, and schedule recurring tasks
To-do List Manage general tasks, subtasks, priorities, deadlines, and an Eisenhower matrix
Thoughts Capture low-friction daily notes and revisit earlier entries
Projects Move ideas into active projects and track subtasks and progress
LinkedIn Posts Plan posts in list and calendar views and track publication
Journal Record time blocks and review daily activity summaries
Learning Organize topics, resources, and learning plans

Data is synchronized through Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore. Each user's data is stored below their authenticated UID and protected by the included Firestore rules.

Windows quick capture

The Windows installer registers two global keyboard shortcuts:

  • Ctrl+Alt+T opens DailyHQ directly in Thoughts for quick capture.
  • Ctrl+Alt+J opens DailyHQ directly in Journal and starts a time-block entry.

The shortcuts work after installing DailyHQ from the Windows installer. They are stored as Start menu shortcuts, so Windows owns their registration.

Technology

  • Flutter and Material 3
  • Firebase Authentication
  • Cloud Firestore real-time streams
  • Android and Windows desktop targets
  • Inno Setup for the Windows installer

The codebase stays intentionally direct. Each feature owns its domain types, Firestore repository, and presentation widgets; there is no generic repository layer or large application framework.

Set up a development environment

Prerequisites

  • A current stable Flutter SDK
  • Android Studio/Android SDK for Android builds
  • Visual Studio with Desktop development with C++ for Windows builds
  • Firebase CLI and FlutterFire CLI
  • Inno Setup 6 only when creating a Windows installer locally

Configure your Firebase project

Forks must use their own Firebase project. The checked-in Firebase client configuration identifies the hosted DailyHQ project but does not grant administrative access. Do not add service-account credentials to this repository.

  1. Create a Firebase project.

  2. Enable Authentication → Sign-in method → Email/Password.

  3. Create a Cloud Firestore database.

  4. From the repository root, run:

    flutterfire configure --project=YOUR_PROJECT_ID --platforms=android,windows
  5. Deploy the included ownership rules:

firebase deploy --only firestore:rules --project YOUR_PROJECT_ID
  6. In Authentication → Users, create your personal user.

  7. Connect each device once using that email and password.

See Firebase setup for configuration and security details.

Run DailyHQ

flutter pub get
flutter run -d windows

Use an Android emulator or connected device with flutter run -d <device-id> for Android.

Project structure

lib/
app/ Application root, startup, and theme
  features/ Self-contained feature modules
  pages/ Simple top-level pages
shared/ Small widgets reused across features
  shell/ Responsive navigation shell

Read Architecture before adding a module. The main rule is simple: keep feature-specific code inside its feature and introduce shared abstractions only after real reuse appears.

Quality checks

dart format --output=none --set-exit-if-changed lib test
flutter analyze
flutter test

Pull requests and pushes run automated checks and build Android and Windows artifacts. Version tags publish both artifacts to GitHub Releases; see Release process.

Contributing

Issues and focused pull requests are welcome. Please read CONTRIBUTING.md and the Code of Conduct first. Report security concerns through GitHub's private vulnerability reporting flow described in SECURITY.md.
