I think it would be nice to give merge support for someone else, so at least people can fix small things and get it merged.

I have merge rights here by virtue of being in the sbt organisation.
Not sure if I can release.

Still would like to get an OK from @reggert for that, don't want this to look like a hostile take-over :-) We just need a bug fixed.

Go for it. I only have merge rights because I needed to merge a fix and no
one else was maintaining the project. ;-)
