tindallgrams's Issues

Sources list fails to display

When I attempt to view the list of sources at http://tindallgrams.net/sources/ , the page takes a long time to display, then fails with an error message.

When I loaded that URL, the first message

This site is currently generating pages. Please reload this page
after a couple of seconds.

appeared. About 2 seconds later I reloaded. The previous message persisted, and the browser indicated it was busy loading, for times between 1 and 200 seconds in various trials. . Then that message disappeared, and the page content was:

Not found

Expected behaviour: a list of source documents appears, quickly.

Other observations:

Reproducible. Observed on Firefox 16.0.2 and on Safari 5.06, on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (an old version).

Generate PDF output

Being somewhat old-school and all, I'd strongly prefer a printed version for night-reading.

So, how about some generated PDF with layout somewhat similar to the original notes (looks fairly consistent, so I guess that could be automated) + possibly some margin notes for explaining the abbreviations.

Fix the contribution instructions on tindallgrams.net

From http://tindallgrams.net/contribute:

The biggest task by far is editing the Tindallgrams themselves. To contribute in this way, first find a Tindallgram that needs to be edited in one of the sources.

Rather than dig through the sources, it would be easier to just dig through a nice list you've already generated. Similar to the one found here:
http://seanredmond.github.io/Tindallgrams/

It should list all known Tindallgrams (which you must have, since you know there are 464), with an indication of which ones have not yet been converted.

Replace DDG iframe with form

The contents of the iframe aren't accessible (no label from the input field, no accessible text for the button), so just replace it with a straight up form

Tindallgrams.net is down

It's of course quite possible that you've deliberately let this domain lapse, as it's not reasonable to expect you to host something of niche interest indefinitely, but just incase this is a mistake I thought I'd raise an issue here.

Thank you for the work you put into these.

Add proper <title>

The <title> element in the <head> is empty in the default template. Web pages have titles that describe topic or purpose. Fails WCAG 2.4.2

Fix local config to not require .html in URLs

When running locally, you have to add .html to all URLs except for the index. For example the equivalent of http://tindallgrams.net/66-FM1-59 on localhost has to be http://localhost:4000/66-FM1-59.html Provide a configuration that allows you to run Jekyll on localhost without adding the extension.

Obviously without breaking the Heroku configuration.

Source references in individual tindallgrams

It would be a lot easier to fix typos in already edited tindallgrams if a reference to the source document and page number was available. As it is, it's hard to know if a certain misspelling was part of the original text or not. Besides, making it easy to go from the edited version to the scanned original would be a nice feature in itself.

A deluxe version of this might be to make it possible to make individual source pages part of the site somehow, and link directly to those.

Or are there some pesky copyright issues or something that would make this tricky?
