As a newcomer, I think it would help to be introduced to the different pages that host documentation publicly or a like CRAN, just to not be confused when finding them via search engines.
Happy to create a PR if you find this useful. Could either be "there are multiple sites out there", or an actual list of sites.
@sellorm Great resource you created here!
Do you see a place for an "R in production" section? It might be interesting to "manager" types of people to learn where and how (e.g. mention Shiny+Rocker images) R is used in productive environments.
I suggest to add a the website link to the field guide to the repository metadata, i.e. at the top next to the short description.
rOpenSci is a community of researchers and developpers developping tools for open science and reproducibility. Some packages are developped by staff (e.g. magick
) and others contributed by the community (e.g. ropenaq
).
It could be sorted into community I guess, for instance it has a discussion forum.
It also has a reviewing system for packages contributed by the community. I selfishly would like this to be included in order to get submissions of packages fitting in our categories and to see people volunteering as reviewers.

The only comment I had was about "Jupyter is a little different from the other IDEs listed here, in that it only supports the “notebook” format of development. In the notebook format, code is executed in chunks and the results of the execution of that code is displayed immediately underneath." I was speed reading and missed the "only" the first time I read that. I don't know Jupyter but I wonder if it's worth changing it to " Jupyter is a little different from the other IDEs listed here, in that it only supports the “notebook” format of development. In the notebook format, code is executed in chunks and the results of the execution of that code is displayed immediately underneath. Whereas Rstudio also supports notebook and markdown ways of working, it is not restricted to these and allows direct console use of R or simple R script editing."
