Reasons to replace ImageMagick?

Hi,

I'd like to know a bit more about the background that lead the client to switch back from ImageMagick. It's said:

  • Any ImageMagick exceptions escaping through the JNI layer causes the JVM to terminate
  • Installing the ImageMagick binaries for different target platforms requires additional work
  • Getting ImageMagick/JMagick to run on Mac OS failed miserably
  • JMagick is no longer actively developed and does not support all ImageMagick features

I would say that most of these issues are probably solved now, that devops is easier with tools like Docker, and that JMagick and JVM crashing issues could be avoided in the first place.

Is the reason to switch still valid nowadays in your opinion? Because I'm thinking on using ImageMagick (mostly need PDF previews, not something as complicated as you do)

PNG processing of fails with "Unsupported JPEG process: SOF type" using Twelve monkey's library

Since you mentioned in one of your presentation that the library is tested with all the images in the same project, I'm opening this ticket.

When I tried processing test-image-48-bit-reduced-to-24-bit.png with twelve monkey's library, I get the following error
