Thanks for reaching out, and apologies for the trouble here.

I'm sorry for the disappointing news, but https://downloads.slack-edge.com/mac_releases/releases.json will soon be removed due to a change in our updating process. Unfortunately there isn't an automatic replacement for it right now. However our Mac folks had a suggestion and I'm going to copy/paste that directly for you:

They can hit our update endpoint, that URL looks something like:
https://slack.com/desktop/update?id=<any-random-string>&platform=darwin&os_version=<their-os-version>&app_version=<their-app-version>&channel=<their-channel>

They can find an example in their browser.log. Search for a line with the text MacUpdater: Direct feed URL and copy the URL from there.

Hi again @shaquir. Thanks for making a speedy fix, unfortunately this doesn't work if curl is used outside the US where international language redirects are operating.

Expected result "4.0.0"

https://slack.com/downloads/mac redirected to https://slack.com/intl/en-gb/downloads/mac

There's a simple fix for the code by making curl follow redirects usr/bin/curl -sL

I only modified your script slightly to include the universal app with this url https://slack.com/ssb/download-osx-universal for both intel and M1 Macs.

I found the copy command on line 53 does not copy the icon resources properly from the Slack DMG disk image. It's possible other resources are not preserved.

In my tests in macOS 10.14.6 with Slack 4.0.0, changing this command to ditto fully replicated a Finder copy and preserved the icon resources.

ditto -rsrc /Volumes/Slack*/Slack.app /Applications/Slack.app
