mediekey's Issues

Add OE digraph support

Describe the solution you'd like
AE might go well on AltGr-A, but not sure where OE should go, as O is marked on the keyboard for the section mark.

(Separated from AE request.)

Missing macron support.

Edited to reflect that the keyboard is supposed to support soft hyphens, not macron-below.

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Canadian French keyboards include legends for the macron, and this layout does not support them as a combining character, which would be useful for characters showing long marks over vowels and sometimes other letters.

Is there a document or documents that shows what you need?
This one is for consistency with keyboard legends and other mediekey behavior.

Describe the solution you'd like
Provide support for the single combinations with Latin characters (those on this keyboard layout) presented at: Macron (diacritic).

Missing soft-hyphen support

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Canadian French keyboards include legends for the soft hyphen on AltGr-. , and this layout does not support that.

Is there a document or documents that shows what you need?
This one is for consistency with keyboard legends and the behavior of the standard French Canadian keyboard.

Describe the solution you'd like
Add support for the soft hyphen (U+00ad) on the VK_OEM_PERIOD key.

Document keyboard installation (and removal)

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Using Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator and Settings > Time & Language > Language > Language Packs is far from clear.

Is there a document or documents that shows what you need?
Not yet!

Describe the solution you'd like
Create a step-by-step with screenshots of using Microsoft KLC to compile a layout, and then install it, showing the security issues and potential collisions along the way.

Printed keyboard variations

Describe the bug
The HP French-Canadian sk806a and Dell KB216T.C36YV have slightly different printed legends on the punctuation keys.

To Reproduce
The HP keyboard looks like:
image

The Dell keyboard looks like:
image

The biggest difference is that there are double quotes on the shifted period on the Dell, while there is another period on the HP. It is also harder to tell if the macron and soft hyphen on the Dell are supposed to be distinct.

Expected behavior
Loading the standard French Canadian keyboard layout into the Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator (MKLC) suggests that the legends on the HP keyboard are the right ones.

That section of the keyboard without any modifier keys looks like:

When shifted, it looks like:

And with AltGr it looks like:

Apologies to folks who have the Dell keyboard, but this will stay with the "official" layout that happens to correspond to the HP.

Add more accented letters.

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Please add more combining characters to the accent dead keys.

Is there a document or documents that shows what you need?

perque on 3rd line, with an accent on the q?

Describe the solution you'd like
Put in the full set of characters with a single accent from Acute Accent and Grave Accent.

Consider adding long s

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Many old documents, both manuscript and printed, use the long s. While this is often discarded (and recreated with rules if desired), there may be cases where it makes more sense to preserve the original form of the letter explicitly.

Is there a document or documents that shows what you need?
Long s is everywhere before 1800.

Describe the solution you'd like
Add the long S to an AltGr combination on the keyboard. S is already taken by eszet. Perhaps f, which is open and visually similar, might be an option?

Consider P with stroke through descender

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
It looks like P with a stroke through the descender may be an abbreviation for pro in at least one book I've encountered so far.

Is there a document or documents that shows what you need?

See the end of the first line in this.

image

Describe the solution you'd like
This one is tricky, as the P key is already overloaded with the paragraph mark, which is shown on the keyboard legends. Somewhere, consider putting these characters on AltGr and AltGr-Shift?
