cool idea. its great because you can seed with super nice photos that are really eye catching and people love it.
I would recommend spending some time in the last third of final projects making the landing page/splash page super beautiful using som css fading animations or something. Always a hit even if it doesn't take much time to implement

you'll want to keep the checkboxes on the readme unchecked until you've got those features done
