Yes, we've made Slapp so that it will work great on Beep Boop, but we intentionally left out all of the Beep Boop specific bits and put them in other modules.
I can empathize, yes the bot framework/platform space is quite confusing. The reason we favor the Events API over the RTM is that every other Slack API feature uses HTTPS. So if you want to use buttons or slash commands your bot has to be addressable via HTTPS. The complexity of this then is that you need to run an ngrok or localtunnel tunnel when developing which can be a bit daunting if you're not familiar with it.
If all you need is an RTM bot for a single team with not buttons or Slash commands then I would recommend botkit.
