๐Ÿ Isaac - AI Assistant, destined for the stars ๐Ÿš€โญ

isaac

Isaac is a modular AI assistant foundation with a spaceship theme. Crews operate with persistent souls and append-only transcripts of their journeys, guided by declarative configuration rather than brittle code. Its berth system lets you extend tools, interfaces, and behaviors cleanly across surfaces while maintaining strict boundaries and verifiable history. Built for the long voyage, not the next hype cycle.

Foundation License: MIT Clojure Babashka Java

Install

Recommended: install the packaged isaac CLI with Homebrew:

brew install slagyr/tap/isaac

If you want the latest unreleased main branch instead of the latest tag:

brew install --HEAD slagyr/tap/isaac

Alternate strategy: run Isaac from a source checkout of isaac-foundation. This is the development path today; we do not currently document a second packaged installer outside Homebrew.

git clone https://github.com/slagyr/isaac-foundation.git
cd isaac-foundation
bb isaac --help

Requirements for the source path: Java 21+ and Babashka.

New capability is added by publishing a module with an isaac-manifest.edn and declaring it under :modules in your Isaac config.

Quick start

  1. Run isaac init to scaffold ~/.isaac/config/isaac.edn.
  2. Add modules (at minimum isaac-agent for crew/sessions and isaac-http for the HTTP host; add isaac-cli-server and isaac-cli-proxy if you want remote CLI over /cli):
{:modules {:isaac.agent {:git/url "https://github.com/slagyr/isaac-agent.git"
                         :git/sha "<pin>"}
           :isaac.http {:git/url "https://github.com/slagyr/isaac-http.git"
                          :git/sha "<pin>"}
           :isaac.cli-server {:git/url "https://github.com/slagyr/isaac-cli-server.git"
                              :git/sha "<pin>"}
           :isaac.cli-proxy {:git/url "https://github.com/slagyr/isaac-cli-proxy.git"
                             :git/sha "<pin>"}}}
  1. Configure crew, providers, and comms in ~/.isaac/config/, then run isaac server, isaac chat, or isaac prompt "..." as your modules expose.

Each module README documents its own bb ci workflow and acceptance features.
