Is it the same problem, when the client is idle on page for a while and server just drops the connection without any events?

No interaction for 3-4 minutes in Google Chrome with Websockets.
The only indication of lost connection to the server is shown by socket.transport.connected variable.
ATM, my workaround is sending a small piece of data at an interval.

That's my workaround too, which will also be necessary for detecting disconnections, so this ticket will cover it.
