That's because params is treated as a path component - whatever is embedded into an URI, isn't parsed, but treated as a component and escaped (which component is context-dependent)

If you try doing val params = Map("q1" -> "q1value", "q2" -> "q2value"), things should work fine.

Right, it's a bit misleading (it caused a hard-to-find bug in my company) but I guess the behavior is correct after all. Thanks for the explanation.
