Question: how does the clock circuit work.

First let me start by making a compliment about the beautiful pcb. I love it! And excuse me for "abusing" the GitHub issues for this question.

I ordered the PCB as a fathers day present for my dad. I was studying the circuit to see how it works, and fail to grasp how the clock signal is generated:

I'm a beginner when it comes to analog circuits but very eager to learn. So hopefully you can shine a light on the black magic. :)

Dim LEDS

I finally received all parts I need for my first BTTF badge. It looks really cool, but it seems my LEDs are way to dim. When I feed 3V directly to the LEDS they have the desired brightness, but via the circuitry it seems they don't get the necessary voltage.

Above example is powered by a new CR2032.

My guess is I used the wrong transistors. Any other things I should or could check?
