Okay, that's probably the problem. Right now it scans all of the pages to compile the complete list of images available then starts to actually download (or not download if the file is already present) the images.
It might make sense to start trying to download concurrent with the scanning as soon as it has image URLs, but I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble. The script is built more for convenience and politeness to the server, not raw speed.

Yes, I see. Maybe you could just update the README file - or even better,
add this explanation as soon as the program starts.
