For important images (spash/hero), a slightly more detailed placeholder would be more appealing. radial-gradient could 'tease' a few more details, eg faces, centered items, etc.

Perhaps there is some AI driven way to intelligently add more gradients, but likely out of scope. But manually adding a few radial-gradient commands could bring returns? This gradient tool seems neat.

An a/b slider with the image to compare would help also.
