nepali-romanized-pro's Introduction

Nepali Romanized Pro (Unicode) for macOS

This is a package that installs Unicode Nepali Romanized Keyboard Layout on a macOS machine. Since the Keyboard Layout that comes with macOS is limited, this is intended to be a replacement for a better experience.

This keyboard layout is based on the Nepali Unicode Romanized layout by Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya.

Installation

The package is not signed yet, so you will have to right-click open, and allow the package to run.

  • Download the latest version from releases.
  • Right-click on the package, choose 'Open'. Read the warning and continue to open the package instead of moving it to the bin. The package will be signed in a future release to solve this issue.

You have to log out, and the log back in before being able to use the Keyboard Layout. Installer

Usage

After logging out and back in again (this is necessary else it won't work.), follow as below.

Open System Preferences, and select the Keyboard preferences System Preferences

In the "Input Sources" tab, enable the "Show input in menu bar". Press the [+] button at the bottom left, and find the newly installed layout in the 'Nepali' section. Layouts - Input Sources Nepali - Input Sources

Optionaly, setup a keyboard shorcut to switch between the layouts easily. Shorcut - Input sources

Finally, select the keyboard layout you want to use on the menubar, or use the shorcut. Keyboard Select

That's it. You're all set to using 'Nepali (Romanized) - Pro' layout on your machine.

nepali-romanized-pro's Issues

Hi Suvash, thank you for the great work. Would you address some issues on mac

Hi Suvash, thank you for the great work. Would you address some issues on mac.

  1. when we hit "capslock" make us able to type in English...
  2. we cannot use mac default shortcuts while in the romanized nepali mode like "apple + w (to close window)
  3. auto change from english to nepali (or next keyboard) when we use key shortcut.. (it only gives us an option right now if 3 or more keyboards are being used)

Please email me at [email protected] if you have some questions about this !

I appreciate your hard work and I know many thousands do :)

Compatibility with OSX Yosemite

The tool doesn't work as expected in OSX Yosemite (10.10.3). When we type in Romanized Nepali, the "ai" sound becomes distorted. For instance, typing "kasaiko" becomes "कस ैको". It should have resulted in "कसैको". Haven't noticed any other major issue except this one.

Examples: म ैले, कस ैको, जस्त ै, घर ैमा।

Space key is not working

typing space key doesn't do anything on my keyboard, my mac is bit older (santa rosa 4.1). Is it the problem with my mac or is it universal, please check.

Compatibility with OSX Mavericks

It was working great until I upgraded to Mavericks. I'm sure the OS wiped out this package. I reinstalled the app, restarted the machine and in the input sources I cannot find Nepali Romanized Pro.

It would be great to have it in the Mavericks as well.

Unable to use caps lock to change between nepali and last used latin keyboard

In Macos Big Sur there is an option in Keyboard preferences -> Input Sources that allows you to use caps lock key to switch to and from last used Latin input source. This works fine with the built-in Nepali (India) and Nepali (Remmington) keyboard layouts, but in the nepali-romanized-pro layout caps lock just acts like regular caps lock (like holding down shift).
Is there a way to make this keyboard layout work with the Big Sur caps lock functionality?
