PulseAudio profile for the Sennheiser GSP 670 wireless gaming headset

sennheiser-gsp670-pulseaudio-profile's Introduction

This profile is likely not needed anymore

Linux kernel 5.15 and newer should support the dongle with updated firmware. PipeWire 0.3.38 or newer should have the required audio profiles. PulseAudio 16.0 or newer should have the required audio profiles.

If you are not running older software than what is written above then you should not use this profile.

Sennheiser GSP 670 PulseAudio profile

Product page: https://en-us.sennheiser.com/gaming-headset-wireless-gsp-670

Like some other headphones, the Sennheiser GSP 670 provides a main and a communication audio device.

This custom profile is needed to make PulseAudio detect both the main and the communication devices.

Supported devices

  1. GSA 70 wireless dongle
  2. GSP 670 gaming headset

Installation

Debian-based distributions

Download the latest *.deb release and install it with dpkg:

sudo dpkg -i pulseaudio-sennheiser-gsp670_x_all.deb

Arch-based distributions

Download the latest *.pkg.tar.xz release and install it with pacman:

sudo pacman -U sennheiser-gsp670-pulseaudio-profile-x-1-any.pkg.tar.xz

Installing with pacman will fail if the install script was use before. This is normal and expected since the files already exist on the system.

There are two ways to address this issue:

  1. Remove the conflicting files
  2. Tell pacman to overwrite the conflicting files

This only has to be done a single time. Once the files were installed using pacman, no errors with conflicting files will occur.

Use the following command to make pacman overwrite the conflicting files:

sudo pacman -U sennheiser-gsp670-pulseaudio-profile-1.1.r3.g627a636-1-any.pkg.tar.xz --overwrite /etc/udev/rules.d/91-pulseaudio-sennheiser-gsp670.rules,/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/sennheiser-gsp670-input-comm.conf,/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/sennheiser-gsp670-output-comm.conf,/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/sennheiser-gsp670-output-main.conf,/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/sennheiser-gsp670-usb-audio.conf

Other distributions

Clone this repository and use the install script:

sudo ./install

Post installation steps

Restart PulseAudio

pulseaudio -k
pulseaudio --start

Reconnect the dongle

If the dongle is already connected then unplug it and plug it back in again.

sennheiser-gsp670-pulseaudio-profile's Issues

Headset is a constant battle to keep on

When starting the system, the headset works quite well. However, it just stops working randomly and one or many of these will fix it sometimes:

  • restaring pipewire, pipewire-pulse, wireplumber
  • unplugging and replugging the dongle
  • switching the dongle's profile to "off" and back to previous
And sometimes none of these work and a reboot is needed.
The system logs are spammed with approximately 5 of these a second:
8.7.2022 17.46	pipewire	spa.alsa: hw:2,0,0: snd_pcm_avail after recover: Broken pipe

I am using the linux-zen kernel. Maybe it has something to do with this? Either way, I really don't know how to go about debugging this. And I don't know where to get help with this.

Send paypal information for donation

Hi buddy, I have purchased the SteelSeries Arctis 7, Logitech Headset G930 & Logitech G633 Artemis. All of the them having the SAME issue as you are fixing in this pulseaudio profile. I will be purchasing this specific Sennheiser model next month and if it works well with your profile I will like to send you a donation because you will be making my life MUCH BETTER for work and play.

This profile set might be unnecessary

Hello!

I updated my Manjaro system to the 5.15.2-2-MANJARO kernel and the dongle with the updated firmware just started working. I did not have this profile installed on my system.

I suppose the patch with the quirks table entry made it into a stable release.

The only out-of-ordinary thing on my system is that I am using PipeWire with Wireplumber as my audo server.

I would like to ask for some community feedback:

  1. Is the dongle with the updated firmware working on your system?
  2. Are you using PipeWire or PulseAudio?
  3. What Kernel version are you running?
  4. Are using this custom profile or not?
  5. Is the dongle recognized as two outputs and a microphone?

Would this work for the Sennheiser GSP 370?

Hi!

Thanks so much for your OSS efforts!

Would you happen to know if this would work with a GSP 370 headset?
Would like to enable the "Binaurality" of that headset^^

It currently only shows up as Mono output in Pulseaudio/Pavucontrol.
Screenshot from 2021-03-27 17-00-19

PS: If you suspect it won't, got any tips on what to search for look/for?

Dongle not working after Update

I updated the EPOS Driver, the Dongle Driver, and the Headset Driver via EPOS (on a windows machine). After the update, I'm not able to use the Headset without the cable anymore, in other words, I cannot use the Dongle anymore.

Dongle not being recognized properly

The dongle is not being recognized properly. It looks like udev thinks it's a keyboard?
Anyone have any idea what's going on here?
I am running the new branch for the updated firmware.

No microphone

Stereo seems to work fine after installing this, however this headset is now missing completely from the input devices dropdown.

Microphone doesn't work

Hi, I can't get microphone to work on Kubuntu for some reason. Audio output works fine over wireless dongle, but microphone isn't even found. When I attach USB cable to the headset, audio still goes over wireless dongle (GSA 70?) and doesn't work if I change it to USB output (GSP 670). Microphone is then also found, but it doesn't work.

Firmware versions, checked on Windows:

  • Headset: 3.2.6
  • Dongle: 3.3.43

I also found this thread, but I don't know if it's any use on Kubuntu: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=251068

Ps. First time reporting issue like this when it comes to Linux, do tell what other information you need!

Pipewire

Hi,

thanks for this project.
I could not yet figure out how to apply this profile when using pipewire-pulseaudio.
Could you maybe add some information regarding pipewire?

/Sascha

doesn't seem to work on Fedora
