This might be caused by having a large acceleration value and a high speed set. I was using the FastAccelStepper with a modified OSSM and I saw that setting a speed above 2000 Hz would cause the stepper library to stop moving entirely. The move function would still return MOVE_OK though.
I lowered my acceleration value by a factor of 10 and everything appears to be working OK now.
One of the bug tickets on FastAccelStepper's repo gave me the idea to try this.
