Docker image for running X GUI apps with OpenGL hardware acceleration via the nvidia driver.

docker-opengl-nvidia's Introduction

docker-opengl-nvidia

Builds a Docker image that allows sharing the local X display for graphical apps on a system that uses the Nvidia proprietary driver. OpenGL and DRI direct hardware acceleration are supported.

Attention!

This approach for using graphical applications in Docker is highly discouraged. The resulting Docker image will not be portable; it depends both on the host graphics device and the graphics driver version. Instead the thewtex/opengl <https://github.com/thewtex/docker-opengl> Docker image is recommended.

docker-opengl-nvidia's Issues

Does this image depend on the host os version (libc, X11 version, ...)?

I like the basic idea of this image and use it successfully on several Ubuntu machines.
However I could only get it to work with the same Ubuntu version. The reason may be
that I am using the graphics drivers ppa for the proprietary NVidia drivers, and not the
official driver download.
My question: is it supported to run a different Ubuntu version in the docker container
than in the host OS, as long as the NVidia driver is the exact same version? Or are
there other dependencies, like same libc version, same libstdc++ version, same X11
version, ...?
