The encoding process requires about 150mb per thread. One problem is that Win32
can only handle 2GB of memory per application, so in a system that can run 8
threads or so may run out of memory and crash. Another possibility is that you
have not have enough memory for the amount of cores selected.
So, in addition to the number cores, the next version of OpenDCP will need to
take into account the amount memory in the system. Also, offer the user the
ability to reduce the number of cores used.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. in the release notes, for 0.16 version you have written :
2. "Improved XYZ color conversion"
3.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I didn't test yet but I just wanted to know what kind of "improvements" you
made in the XYZ color correction... I made a DCP from TIFF files generated in
Rec.709 by After Effects CS5 these last days and I've seen a difference between
the J2C files created by opendcp_j2k and other J2C files made from TIFF files
in "DCDM XYZ Adobe 5900K gamma 2.6" and converted by opendcp_j2k with the "-x"
option (to prevent from a double color space correction).
Is that this mismatch I can expect to be corrected with the 0.16 version of
opendcp ?
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.16 on Mac OS X
Please provide any additional information below.
I will go in a digital cinema theatre soon... and i will test 5 different
workflows...
A : After Effects 32-bit linear Universal Printing Density color space -> TIFF
16-bit Rec.709 RGB -> opendcp_j2k -> J2C XYZ
B : After Effects 32-bit linear Universal Printing Density color space -> TIFF
16-bit DCDM XYZ -> opendcp_j2k -x -> J2C XYZ
C : After Effects 16-bit no color space -> TIFF 16-bit RGB -> opendcp_j2k ->
J2C XYZ
D : After Effects 16-bit no color space + color space utilitie "working space
to DCDM XYZ" -> TIFF 16-bit DCDM XYZ -> opendcp_j2k -x -> J2C XYZ
E : After Effects 32-bit linear Universal Printing Density color space + gamma
1.22:1 correction -> TIFF 16-bit Rec.709 RGB -> opendcp_j2k -> J2C XYZ
If you have any suggestion tell me... and I will tell wich way is the best to
maintain correct colors from a calibrated 10-bit HD monitor to a Digital Cinema
projector...

Hi Terrence,
First thank you very much for all your time and efforts. I've been following
your progress with great interest and I would like to submit a few suggestions
to improve your already great software.
I'm currently working on the 25P DCP of a feature film shot in 4K so a few
enhancements would be great, I'm not an expert at all and all you'll get from
me is an end-user's opinion :
1) Instead of the OpenJPEG library, would it be possible to use the Kakadu
JPEG2000 one, as it is faster and it seems to integrate 25P and other
framerates with more confidence
2) It would be great if you could offer a GUI, at least for Mac, as
command-lines are just nightmares for simple guys like me ;-)
3) It would be also great to offer the possibility of inputting DPX files, and
then process them with the usual X'Y'Z' and gamma conversion.
Keep up the good work Terrence !
Thank you,
Jean-Charles Wolfarth

opendcp_j2k is not currently being built on win32. This is because Microsoft
Visual Studio does not include multithreaded support unless you purchase the
profession edition.
The solution will be to not include multithreaded support on win32, move the
compiling to mingw32, or get somebody else to compile it under Microsoft Visual
C++ Professional.

The sprintf used for the generation of the asset sizes use the wrong format
string. Also typecasting size_t types to int like (int)st.st_size breaks code
in a unpredictable ways. Just don't do it.
Never typecast printf prameters to tackle compiler warnings. Always fix the
format string. In the following the format string was changed to properly
process size_t/off_t parameters. That way the code stays portable.
Change the following.
opendcp_utils.c 160: sprintf(asset.size,"%zd",st.st_size);
opendcp_xml.c 136: sprintf(context->cpl.size,"%zd",st.st_size);
opendcp_xml.c 226: sprintf(context->pkl.size,"%zd",st.st_size);
Also don't use DWORD, WORD in tiff_infoheader_t, for the same reason. Use
uint32_t and uint16_t from stdint.h.

Selecting the JPEG2000 stereoscopic checkbox should reduce the bandwidth per
image to 125mb/s. It doesn't, which will result in a codestream that is out of
DCI specification. As a work around reduce the quality slider to 50 when

Hi Terrence!
First of all thank you for your work. I appreciated very very much.
Picture and audio packaging worked well for me. I had some minor issues
concerning Timedtext (I mean an mxf with a font to load and otherwise only text
that I had previously created with asdcp-test and checked according to DCI DCSS
CTP 1.1) whitch I could solve with the attached patches. But there is a question
that still puzzles me quite a lot. I saw that you check for equal duration of
picture, audio and subtitles in opendcp_utils.cpp and I understand that you are
following what seems to be said in the DCI DCSS v.1.2 at paragraph 5.3.4.2 and
5.3.5.2. If I can understand that for picture and audio (and following CTP v.
1.1 at § 4.4.4 there should be a check to complete a second with the
respective frames for each track at the end of a file) I cannot realize why
subtitle couldn't end before audio and video. It seems to me that the actual
duration of the subtitle track is derived from the TimeOut of the last
SpotNumber.
So I suspect that a Subtitle track could in practice really be shorter than
picture and audio. Otherwise very often one should have a last virtual
SoptNumber without text or subpicture. What do you think?
Thank you again
Luca

What steps will reproduce the problem?
> opendcp_j2k -i TIFF -o J2K -t 4
or
> opendcp_j2k -i TIFF -o J2K --threads 4
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
This should use 4 threads, but always starts only 1 thread. The GUI works fine
and detects the right amount of CPUs to use.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Same behaviour on OSX 10.6.6 and Windows 7 workstations

When trying to create a 3D DCP from 3D MXF Interop files, ASDCP can't identify
them. It will return with a error. 3D SMPTE files work fine.

Dear Terrence72
First of all congratulations for the project; glad to see here also Wolfgang
Woehl, remember him from OPENCINEMATOOLS BOARD.
Sorry for writing here, this is not an issue, i know; but it's the only way to
communicate.
By the way; i saw in download section ther're OSX Binaries available for
download, i assume you're developing on mac platform; is there any chance to
get MS WIN binaries as well?
Thank you
Timothy
