For example, LSST DocuShare has a custom handle 'presentation-xxxx'

The idea to treat unknown handle as DocumentObject seems to be plausible, but I still want to have some error checks of handle names for my use. In particular, I would like to get a proper error message for typos in a handle name. For example, if the handle name is 'Documen-xxxx', I would like this library to say 'this is an invalid handle' rather than trying to access the DocuShare site.

Adding "properties" attribute to each object seems to be a good idea. It would be also nice if the

• Remove "document_control_number" from DocumentObject as it is likely specific to certain DocuShare sites.
• Allow accessing the properties with getitem method of DocuShareBaseObject.

FYI, based on your package, I created a sphinxdoc "role" that can refer to docushare documents within sphinxdoc: https://github.com/olebole/sphinx-docushare
My main question here is how it is possible to retrieve documents anonymously, f.e. from https://docushare.lsstcorp.org/docushare? Without the login() method, one cannot proceed.

Unrelated to this: Is there a reason why this package is only on test.pypi.org and not on the main PyPI?
