Web Development Project for PS I

A web messaging service with rooms that supports end-to-end encryption.

To run the application, make sure you have Node installed on your computer. You can download Node from here.

Go to the root directory of this project folder and run the following commands in your terminal: npm install and then node app. The application is now running in your local computer and you can open it here.

alphabet-encoding's Issues

Page refresh by the only user of the room

If a user is the only user of a room and refreshes the page, the room will no longer exist. As a result, no other user can join that room.

Reason:
When a user refreshes a page, it results in a socket disconnection and reconnection with a different socket ID. Before reconnection, the room would have no users. The room is deleted when no users are present in the room. Hence, no other user can join the room.

Distinguish server messages from user messages

Change the background colour of server messages to differentiate them from user messages.

Prevent users from altering URL

Users can change chat URL and join rooms with invalid codes and empty usernames. Disallow users from changing URL or redirect them to an error page in such cases

Multiple users with same username

A room can have multiple users with the same username. This makes it impossible to make out which user sent the message.
