typo3cms-tutorial-editors's Issues

Change outdated "Working with languages"

https://docs.typo3.org/m/typo3/tutorial-editors/10.4/en-us/Languages/Index.html

The upper part describes how to create sys_language records, which no longer exist and were replaced by Site Configuration. Managing site configurations is not part of an editors task (rather of an integrators), so I opt to:

  • remove the outdated sys_language text parts
  • give a short description, that new languages can be added in the site configuration
  • add a link to the site configuration documentation for further information

Describe Live Search

The Live Search was reworked in TYPO3 v12. The part for editors should be described in this guide.

  • What is it?
  • How to use it

Document content element anchors

Current behavior

There is no editor documentation about creating links to specific content elements.

Expected behavior/output

The editor's tutorial should talk about:

  • that every content element has its own anchor ID (c + element ID)
  • the link wizard can create links to single content elements
  • how to create named anchors on pages (via the HTML content element)

Improve search engine results for this manual, specifically searching for title "Tutorial for Editors"

Current behavior

It's weird that it is a bit difficult to find the "Tutorial for Editors" aka "Editors Guide" via the global search (top right).

Example search terms:

  1. tutorial for editors => no useful results, even if filter with "TYPO3 manual"
  2. "tutorial for editors" => not any better
  3. Editors Guide => good, first result

Results for 1:

image

Expected behavior/output

It seems the guide has 2 names "Tutorial for editors" and "Editors Guide" which are both displayed:

image

So, I would really only use one of these (everywhere) or make it possible to search for "Tutorial for editors", e.g. by adding that to the title or the start page - though this solution is a bit ugly.

Or, make sure the name displayed in the top left is being indexed. Apparently, it is probably not.

Helpful might also be to make sure using quotes in search results is supported so that it is possible to search for the exact phrase or a "word proximity search".

Usually search engines also rank hits by using the phrase or proximity higher if several search terms are used - even if not using quotes. I am not sure why this is not the case here.

Possible Solution

  • better solution: improve search
  • quick solution: add term "Tutorial for editors" on start page or in title
  • also, decide what is a tutorial and what is guide (and what is a howto etc.) and use that consistently
  • consistently use only 1 title of a manual
  • what's up with "Tell me something about"? This was already taken down some years ago.

New to Typo3

I inherited a typo three site and it's truly a mess. I am trying to change a simple thing, but i'm on day 2 of not being able to figure it out.

So the tutorials are mostly in German, but trying to reach the first developer has taken a week just to get a password to log in to the backend.

I am trying to adjust the logo on our homepage, which is squashed. How do I get the the actual code of the site and just set the width of the image to 100%?

It would've literally taken 20 seconds using dreamweaver.

When i go to the supposed "template", there is no code anywhere. Even when I can get some code to show up, I can't edit it? I'm thinking the backend to do this stuff is not available to me in the program. Since there is an external source for this site, is it possible they didn;t include the ability to see the code. or edit?

I ultimately would love to transfer the entire site to something with much better (English) support and tutorials. I have to figure out how i can do basic stuff before that.

Add "deep linking" article for TYPO3 v11

Since TYPO3 v11 LTS deep linking is available for editors - see section "Deep Links in the TYPO3 Backend" at https://typo3.org/article/typo3-v11-lts-warp-speed. Write an article about it by e.g.

  • adding a screenshot with arrow to the new link button
  • re-use the explanation of the above mentioned article
  • explain the difference between copying the deep link URL from the browser address bar or the new TYPO3 backend button:
Button is providing shortest, cleanest form of deep linking URL reduced by any user tracks like the URL query param &returnUrl.

English version links to pages in French language + 1 suggestion

Hi there,

While reading the Editors Tutorial I found some links that don't seem right:

The 'Getting Started Tutorial' link in these pages:

https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/Introduction/Index.html
https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/ContentElements/Content/Index.html
https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/ContentElements/Images/Index.html
https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/Pages/WorkingWithPages/Index.html

lead to this 404-page:
https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/GettingStartedTutorial/fr_FR/Index.html#start

I suppose this is the correct link:
https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/GettingStartedTutorial/

On this page (English language) about the RTE: https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/ContentElements/CreatingContent/Index.html
The link 'described in more details later' leads to a page in the French language... Mon Dieu!

On this page (in English):
https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/Pages/CreatingPages/Index.html

the link 'Page type chapter'leads to a French page (https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/fr_FR/Pages/PageTypes/Index.html#pages-types)
Also, the link 'mountpoints' on this page: https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/Pages/PageProperties/Index.html, leads to a page in the French language.
I suppose this is the correct link in both cases: https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/Pages/PageTypes/Index.html

The link 'content element type' on this page: https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/Pages/PageProperties/Index.html also leads to a French text.
I suppose this is the correct link: https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/ContentElements/CreatingContent/Index.html
On the same page the link 'mountpoints' also leads to a page in the French language. I suppose it should link to:
https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/Pages/PageTypes/Index.html

Also on the page https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/Pages/CreatingPages/Index.html
I found an other link to a site in the French language:
'Page properties chapter' links to: https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/fr_FR/Pages/PageProperties/Index.html#pages-properties
I suppose it should link to:
https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/Pages/PageProperties/Index.html

The link 'page properties' on this page also leads to a French text:
https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/Pages/PageTypes/Index.html

An other thing:
I guess it would really help new users to see the icons depicted right in front of the page-types on this page (so they can connect the icons they can choose from to to the page types):
https://docs.typo3.org/typo3cms/EditorsTutorial/Pages/PageTypes/Index.html

Update screenshots to 10.4

Screenshots in the documentation are mostly from TYPO3 7.6, current is 10.4. Most of them are still viable, but there are some cosmetic changes, most notably the changes done for checkbox elements, screenshots of old rtehtmlarea... but rather low priority.

Russian translation

Hello! I would like to translate this document into Russian (ru_RU). Could you make an appropriate structure?

Access rights, information might be incorrect

On this page: https://docs.typo3.org/m/typo3/tutorial-editors/master/en-us/AccessControl/Login/Index.html you will see a section talking about Access Rights and how you can set a "Members only" page.

If using the "Show at any login" Usergroup, the last sentence in that section claims that you'll be redirected to the home page, but in my experience with both a brand new TYPO3 site, and all my existing sites, TYPO3 will simply 404 if you try to access that page.

Is the documentation wrong, or has that functionality changed since it was written?

I'm having great difficulty figuring out how to redirect a user to either the Home page or the login page when accessing a page with invalid usergroup rights.
