README

Resume-AI

Resume-AI is a unified PowerShell utility and interactive CLI tool allowing for the handover of conversations across major AI coding assistants: Claude Code, Codex, Kimi, and GitHub Copilot.

It provides an interactive TUI (Terminal User Interface) to quickly find prior conversations and resume them natively in their respective CLI environment or perform a cross-provider resume via context injection.

Key Features

  • Unified Multi-Provider Support: Supports Claude Code, Codex, Kimi, and Copilot.
  • Interactive Arrow-Key TUI: Search, filter, and navigate session histories across all supported AI coding agents.
  • Workspace Scoping: Automatically filters conversations based on your current working directory, with a [Tab] shortcut to toggle between the current workspace and all workspaces globally.
  • Cross-Provider Context Injection: Seamlessly transition from one AI provider to another. Extracts the transcript into a formatted Markdown document (.ai-resume/prior-<provider>-<id>.md), initializes the target CLI in the original working directory, and seeds it with context.
  • Fast & Resilient Parsers: Streams large JSONL transcripts safely using shared read locks, handling multi-hundred-megabyte session files without locking or crashing.
  • CLI Command & Non-Interactive Support: Includes flags to inspect (-List) and export (-Export) conversation transcripts directly to Markdown without entering the interactive TUI.

Requirements

  • PowerShell 7.0+ (pwsh) or Windows PowerShell 5.1
  • One or more supported AI CLI tools installed and available in your PATH:
    • claude (Claude Code)
    • codex (Codex CLI)
    • kimi (Kimi Code CLI)
    • copilot (GitHub Copilot CLI)

Installation

  1. Save the Resume-AI.ps1 script into your desired scripts folder or directory.
  2. (Optional) Create an alias or wrapper function in your PowerShell profile ($PROFILE) for quick access:
function resume-ai { pwsh -File "C:\Path\To\Resume-AI.ps1" @args }

Command-Line Arguments & Flags

Parameter Type Description
-Provider String Skip provider selection menu and launch directly for: Claude, Codex, Kimi, or Copilot.
-Query String Pre-fill the search filter box in the interactive menu.
-All Switch Start the conversation list unscoped (showing all workspaces across the system).
-List Switch Output a non-interactive tabular summary of available conversations to stdout.
-Export Switch Export a specific conversation's transcript directly to Markdown without running the interactive menu.
-Id String Target conversation ID (used with -Export).
-OutDir String Custom output directory path for exported Markdown transcripts (used with -Export).

How Cross-Provider Resuming Works

When switching a session from one provider to another (e.g., continuing a Claude Code session in Copilot):

  1. Transcript Extraction: The full interaction history (User prompts, Assistant responses, Tool calls, Thinking/Reasoning steps, and Task events) is parsed and formatted.
  2. Markdown Generation: The transcript is written to .ai-resume/prior-<provider>-<short-id>.md inside the project's original working directory.
  3. Seeded Execution: The script launches the target provider's CLI in that directory with a seed prompt referencing the Markdown file, allowing the new AI agent to digest prior context before proceeding.
