Simple instructions for setting up a Node web app on AWS

Simple Docker Node App

Requires:

• NodeJS
• Docker
• Elasticbeanstalk CLI
• AWS account

Creaate Node web app with Dockerfile

based on these instructions: https://nodejs.org/en/docs/guides/nodejs-docker-webapp/

docker build -t ultrasaurus/node-web-app .
docker run -p 49160:8080 -d ultrasaurus/node-web-app
curl -i localhost:49160

output:

> node server.js

AWS with ElasticBeanstalk

eb init

Note: not all services are available in every region (AWS doc)

Select a default region: 1) us-east-1 : US East (N. Virginia)

Select an application to use: 2) [ Create new Application ]

Application Name: node-web-app

It appears you are using Docker. Is this correct?

Select a platform version: use the lastest, which is the default

Do you wish to continue with CodeCommit? (y/N) (default is n): n

Do you want to set up SSH for your instances? (Y/n): Y

This creates .elasticbeanstalk/config.yml and adds to .gitignore so we only have thse files locally

eb create node-web-app
