Local Development

Deployment

Automatic Deployment

Push to main branch - GitHub Actions automatically deploys to GitHub Pages.

Workflow: .github/workflows/deploy-main-site.yml

Manual Deployment

cd sites/devopsengineers
npm run build
npm run deploy

GitHub Repository Setup

1. Create Repository on GitHub

# Using GitHub CLI
gh repo create devops-learning-platform --public

# Or create manually on GitHub.com
# Repository name: devops-learning-platform
# Visibility: Public

2. Push Code

git init
git add .
git commit -m "Initial commit: DevOps Learning Platform"
git branch -M main
git remote add origin https://github.com/vellankikoti/devops-learning-platform.git
git push -u origin main

3. Enable GitHub Pages

  1. Go to repository Settings โ†’ Pages
  2. Source: Select GitHub Actions
  3. Wait for first deployment (2-3 minutes)

4. Configure Custom Domain

  1. Add DNS records at your domain registrar:

    Type: A
    Name: @
    Value: 185.199.108.153
    Value: 185.199.109.153
    Value: 185.199.110.153
    Value: 185.199.111.153
    
    Type: CNAME
    Name: www
    Value: vellankikoti.github.io
    
  2. Create CNAME file:

    echo "devopsengineers.in" > sites/devopsengineers/static/CNAME
    git add sites/devopsengineers/static/CNAME
    git commit -m "Add custom domain CNAME"
    git push
  3. In repository Settings โ†’ Pages, add your custom domain

Automation

Tool Version Tracking

Automatically fetches latest versions of DevOps tools every 6 hours.

Script: scripts/fetch-tool-versions.js

Workflow: .github/workflows/update-tool-versions.yml

Manual Run

node scripts/fetch-tool-versions.js

Content Creation

Adding New Tutorial

  1. Create directory: sites/devopsengineers/docs/[tool-name]/
  2. Add content files (Markdown)
  3. Update sidebar if needed
  4. Commit and push โ†’ Auto-deploys

Configuration

Update Site Metadata

Edit sites/devopsengineers/docusaurus.config.ts:

  • Update organizationName with your GitHub username
  • Update url if using different domain
  • Add Google Analytics ID (optional)
  • Customize navigation and footer
