bridge_dev2's Introduction

08.07.2020

This branch is created in order to develop the patch for MCFM-9.0 as well as for mcfm-bridge (version 0.0.35 is used).

Patches for MCFM-9.0 are given with separate packages mcfm-patch-0.0.901 and mcfm-patch-0.0.902.
mcfm-bridge patch is bridge-patch-0.0.35.90.

IMPORTANT: Due to omp methods in MCFM-9.0, the bridge is modified with '#pragma omp threadprivate' however this does not allow to perform paralleling.
For that reason in order to produce grids fist switch to only one thread with:
  $ export OMP_NUM_THREADS=1

Instruction on how to use patches with official MCFM-9.0 and mcfm-bridge-0.0.35:
0. The packages were tested using gcc-7.1.0.
1. One should have the defatul content listed below.
2. Untar hoppet, LHAPDF, applgrid, MCFM and mcfm-bridge.
3. Build hoppet, LHAPDF and applgrid.
4. Patch MCFM-9.0 with mcfm-patch-0.0.901 (untar the patch in MCFM dir) and build with ./Install && make.
5. Patch bridge with bridge-patch-0.0.35.90 (untar the patch in bridge dir) and install.
6. Patch MCFM-9.0 with mcfm-patch-0.0.902 (untar the patch in MCFM dir) and do:
   - execute ./cleaner.sh;
   - go to src/User/gridwrap.cpp and change smth (like add comment or smth) // this part has some problem with linkage and the makefile doesn't track changes in the bridge.
   - do make in MCFM-9.0
7. in order to produce grids use command:
   $ ./mcfm_omp -histogram%grid=true input.ini (see more details in the code, src/User/parseinput.f, the documentation on the method used there can be found in https://github.com/jannisteunissen/config_fortran)

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
1. For now this version is only in LO;
2. Default settings in input.ini file use dynamic mur muf scale estimation.
3. Current applgrid version contains print of grids(?) per subprocess, this might confuse a bit.
4. Don't forget to use $ export OMP_NUM_THREADS=1
5. Don't forget to download the PDF set, the default one for input.ini is CT14NNLO (http://lhapdfsets.web.cern.ch/lhapdfsets/current/CT14nnlo.tar.gz).

Default content:
applgrid-1.5.40
hoppet-1.2.0
LHAPDF-6.2.3
MCFM-9.0
mcfm-bridge-0.0.35
bridge-patch-0.0.35.90
mcfm-patch-0.0.901
mcfm-patch-0.0.902
