community-engagement's Introduction

Tanzu Community Engagement

The purpose of this repository is to publish the Tanzu Community Engagement guidelines, community health measurements, and goals.

Using the information in this repo

We use these documents during the planning phase of open sourcing a new project, and during our community engagement health checks.

We hope these documents can be useful for the wider open source community, as you start out new projects or want to improve already existing ones.

The flow of information goes:

  1. GUIDELINES, used for planning and implementation of documentation, processes, and communication platforms for our open source projects.

  2. HEALTHCHECKS, used twice yearly to see what community engagement improvements should be made in the near future.

community-engagement's Issues

Build a maturity model for OSS projects

While the current guidelines are helpful for projects in early stages of community development, once most of the requirements are met, there are no remaining goals.

In that regard, a maturity model, with clear milestones to reach at different stages of community engagement would be useful to keep focus from maintainers and the community in general

Incorporate DEI metrics to Health Assessments

One of the overarching goals of a community manager is to build a community where 'everyone feels welcome', so Diversity, Equity and Inclusion is a key pillar for that goal.

Nevertheless, the current set of metrics for OSS Health Assessments only include Organizational Diversity as a metric but not much beyond that.

As Prior Art, the CHAOSS metrics include a full section about DEI in areas like Governance, Leadership, communications and others
