On the subquery JOIN this line calculates the total possible periods as the denominator for calculating the possible total periods.

COUNT(DISTINCT courses.course_number) * COUNT(DISTINCT DATE_VALUE) AS "totalPossiblePeriods"

However, using "distinct date_value" does not take into consideration the cycle days, so a class may be a distinct course number but is not offered on all the possible distinct days in the date range. Therefore, the value is doubled.
