webpshop's Issues

Unknown issue

Hi, I have recently install latest version of PS 2021(22.3.1) and copy the plugin to plugin folder as usual
But now I'm having issue with the images and I'm not able to edit/make change of it. The transparency has gone or having weird colors/texture. However when I opened the images in chrome or other image viewers, it seem fine.
I have tried re-install PS but its not working. It's working fine in previous version.

Here's what it look like.
image
It should be image of crosshair and having transparent background.

Image are working fine in the program or view in other apps. ignore the white background as I'm open it in chrome.
image

Images dragged in from another tap in photoshop removes the save as webp option in photoshop.

I've been scratching my head for a while, but for some reason if i drag an image into another tap in photoshop the webp save as option is removed. I can save as the image itself in it's own respectable tap but as soon as i move it over to a freshly made canvas the save as webp option disappears.

Until i remove the dragged over image, it won't export in webp.

When i say dragged over, imagine having 4 images open in 4 different taps in photoshop. Then taking one image clicking on it and simply dragging it over to one of the other existing taps now having two images in the same tap.

Convert tiff/psd to WebP

Can tiff or psd files be converted to WebP with Photoshop plugin or some other tool on mac os x?

Webp smart-layer loses transparency after reopening

I have discovered that if a webp is imported to a psd as a smart layer, then the psd is closed and reopened, that resizing the webp layer causes the transparency to disappear and be replaced by pixelated white blocks.

It is only the transparency that is affected, the rest of the detail remains perfectly clear.

before resizing
after resizing

Rasterizing the layer prevents the white from showing up, however it loses all the benefits of being a smart layer in the first place.

Also, this only occurs in files which have been saved and reopened, just saving and continuing work has no effect.

Photoshop version: 22.1.0
Webp Plugin version: 0.3.3 (This also happened on 0.3.2)

Preview Size on high dpi Displays

The small preview size is very difficult to use on high dpi displays (4k/5k), particularly for trying to asses how detail holds up in smaller files when saving out various versions for responsive images. Often I have to save out tests and preview with Quicklook or open in Photoshop so I can zoom in to check if important details have been lost or smeared. It would be useful if the UI was larger (or could be resized by click-dragging corners) and had zoom in and zoom out controls like Adobe's export UIs (command +, command -).

That being said, I'm hoping sooner than later Adobe will simply implement WebP into Photoshop natively, so maybe this isn't high on your priority list. Just thought I'd mention it because I'm using this plugin daily and it gets very frustrating not being able to see what I'm working on and requires extra steps, which really lowers productivity when trying to work fast in a production environment.

It's a very useful tool though as it runs inside PS and I can use it in my actions. That has saved me heaps of time. I've tried other tools that work outside of Photoshop and they produce larger files, subpar results, and typically lack previews. It would just be a real time saver if it had a larger UI and zooming capability.

Thanks

WEBP Plugin Crashes Photoshop 2020

Hi, I have PS 2020 installed on my mac running catalina. When I open PS, it asks if I want to load plugins not installed by adobe and, when I click yes, it crashes photoshop. Here's the log it generated on crash, hope this helps (it's a shame this isn't built into photoshop natively):

Photoshop CS5 Extended not finding the plugin

I know this is a really old version but it performs ably for my needs. If there is a simple switch that can enable support for this version, I'd love it if you could fix the plugin?

Thanks,

How to WebP Animate Dialog Box using Photoshop Plugin

The photoshop plugin seems to work well if I open a single PNG files, and then click SAVE/SAVE AS options. This usually opens WebP Dialog box to export the WEBP file from the PNG file.
However, if I export animated GIF from After Effects into the photoshop, it opens as a sequence of layers within the layers panel of the photoshop. If I use "Export->Save for Web (legacy)" I can export the Optimized GIF from there. However, if I click on SAVE/SAVE AS option, I can only open simple WebP Dialog rather than WebP Animated Dialog to export the Animated WEBP Files.
Can anybody help me with this?

WEBP 16 & 32bit save options from .EXR, .PNG, .JPG not showing

Could someone kindly advise on the steps needed to convert an image from the above mentioned formats into .WEBP 16/32bit?
Source image is RGB 32bit, ive tried several formats.
thanks in advance

EDIT : Im not having success with PS 22.2 , 23.0.2. Ive tried the Save a Copy, stil no dice. This is on Win10 environment.

There is no such directory Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CC.
I confirmed w Adobe support and this is erroneous info.
This plugin doesn't work.

File not found error

Hello! Thank you for all your work on this plugin.

I have installed the plugin, but I keep getting this error if I try to save an image as a webp, open a webp image, or inspect the plugin through Photoshop.
Screen Shot 2020-08-06 at 8 42 14 AM

I have updated and restarted my photoshop to the newest CC license. I am on a mac version 10.13.6, I ran through the troubleshooting tips, which included trying different file locations, running the permissions command, and restarting my computer, but that didn't fix the error. My coworkers were able to load it fine, so I am sure it is just user error, but I am at a loss of how to move forward.

Universal Mac not Working

It appears that the plugin has stopped working on my intel mac. The option to save as a webp no longer appears. I attempted deleting the existing plugin and using a fresh version.

Adobe After Effects / Adobe Media Encoder support?

This is a newbie question, so please feel free to close this.

What would it take to add (animated) WebP support to Adobe After Effects or Adobe Media Encoder? Is that something this plugin could be extended to do, or would that be an entirely separate project?

Webp animation glitchy with frames out of order.

Hello I tried to create a smooth animation of spinning car wheels in photoshop. Unfortunately due to memory and quality issues I cannot use PhotoShops native export GIF feature. That said when I preview the GIF animation using the timeline in Photoshop it is nice and smooth.

When I export the animation to webp it is not only choppy but it glitches out seeming to display frames in the incorrect order despite my meticulous effort to ensure that each layer was named appropriately and ordered sequentially. Also the loop feature fails altogether with the image completing maybe one or two stuttering glitchy loops and then grinding to a halt. I'm viewing the file using Brave Browser. Can you help me to achieve a world class animated webp file using your excellent plugin?

Photoshop CS4 plugin does not write into file

The plug in for WebP is installed and is recognized. I can open a WebP file, but when I save it gives me the interface but writes nothing to the file. I get a webP file with 0 bytes. Anyone have a clue what's going on?

Zero Length File

I installed the WebPShop_0_2_1_Win_x86 to Photoshop CS3, Version 10.0. Everything appears to have installed correctly but when I save a file as .webp it save a zero length file (0 KB). I've tried different file types and sizes and they all save the same.

PS cc 2020 was not finding the files with the path provided

I worked through terminal and the command I used was:

sudo xattr -r -d com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Adobe Photoshop 2020/Plug-ins/WebPShop-master"

this worked, I loaded PSS and was able to open the files I needed to... thanks so much. I hope this helps someone else.

Photoshop path

The plugin does not export the XMP data correctly, specifically the photoshop path, which is possible in any JPEG or JPEG2000 file, it would be nice to have that option.

PSD Export as WebP Dialogue with MetaData and Options

The Photoshop plugin you created is really great! Thumbs up for your work!

It would be a great addition to allow a direct export from PSD to WebP. Please consider including this feature, as it would also greatly improve the Workflows of Photographers and Graphic Designers.
This functionality could be integrated in the "Export..."-Dialogue. The "Export..."-Dialogue should also include the parameters supported nativly by the cwebp application (Resizing, Including all XMP-Metadata, Quality-Settings and so on).
This would be the next step to make WebP more attractive for future use and acceptance among the community!

Keep up your good work!

webp not properly handling color profile

I saw mention of color shifts in #4 , but I'm not experiencing the same thing. This has to do with embedded color profiles. I use a color calibrated monitor and I convert all my photographs to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 so that they appear as close to the original colors as possible across as many monitors and image viewers as possible. Most modern web browsers now support color management and will use the embedded profile to properly display the tagged images.

The issue is that even though the keep color profile option is checked when saving to webp, the resulting image file isn't tagged or doesn't have the color profile embedded.

Here's what Bridge reports:
image

When using color managed programs like ImageGlass or Bridge, the colors shift in the webp vs the original jpeg because the program doesn't know what the embedded profile is supposed to be or it's missing entirely. There is an option to force untagged images in a web browser to always assume srgb, but most people don't have that set.

WebP plugin doesn't work in M1-updated Photoshop

I followed the instructions for installing the WebP plugin. It is in the plugin folder of Photoshop on my M1 Mac mini. I ran the terminal command you suggested.

Though the plugin is in the correct folder, it does not show up in the About > Plugins menu. Only Camera Raw does.

I attempted to install the day after the Photoshop update for M1 Macs was released. I assume the plugin isn't compatible with the newly updated version?

Noticeable colour shift when saving to webp from jpg

I've discovered an issue with both this plugin and Telegraphics plugin in Photoshop CC 2020.

The jpg maintains the vibrancy of the product's copper colour. When I save to webp, the colours become noticeably desaturated. Looking more like a dull gold, rather than bright copper.

I've tried several options, all show this same result. The zip contains the source jpg and my webp result.

Swatches-jpg-webp.zip

Doesn't load in latest Photoshop 2020

Latest Windows 10, latest Photoshop version. Adding the 8bi file into the plugins folder just like any other plugin results in nothing. Look up system info from the about menu and it doesn't show the plugin loaded.

However, if I install the 2015 "WebP for Photoshop v0.5b9" plugin from https://github.com/fnordware/AdobeWebM page, Photoshop sees it just fine, loads it and can work with webp images. So it's just WebPShop that isn't working for some reason.

I thought I'd point it out :)

Photoshop reports program error on saving

First, thank you for the plugin.

I tried using it in Photoshop 12.1 (Creative Suite 5.5) on OS X 10.14.6 (Mojave). It loads correctly and appears in “Photoshop > About Plugins”. The file format option “WebPShop” is selectable in the “Save as…” dialogue and the image settings are displayed in the next step, options are selectable, preview is rendered correctly, everything looking great.

But on confirming the image settings Photoshop reports a program error and doesn’t save the image—see attached screenshot. The German text translates to “The file could not be saved as “test.webp” because a program error occured.”

Bildschirmfoto 2022-06-28 um 12 47 04

I know PS CS 5.5 is really, really old and probably not supported by you (I wasn’t able to find any compatibility tables here on GitHub) but I’m hoping that there’s a simple solution you can recommend. I can’t update from Mojave because Catalina doesn’t support the Creative Suite.

Thank you!

WebP save options not coming up for 16 & 32bit photoshop projects

In Photoshop v 22.4.3 (latest stable release at this date) the webp save as option is not coming up for me.
Edit: I managed to identify this to be caused by the project bit depth setting.
For 8bit projects (which I never work in) everything works as intended.
In 16 & 32bit mode, there is no more option to save as WebP.

I don't know since when this is happening since I have not used to plugin in a while, but I could really use a fix.

If the way how to save files has changed since I last used the plugin, I apologize. I could not find any indication of this being the case.

Unclear how to preserve transparency in webp 'save as' settings

Pretty much what the title says. I choose a PSD file with transparency, and go to save as > webp (in PS with webpShop plugin) and everything looks good until I open the webp file afterwards in Chrome and see a white, opaque background. Is there a setting that applies transparency? Or, is there a special way to build transparency with PSD file before saving as webp? Thanks in advance!

PS 2020 Mac issue with the message 'malicious software'

Hi there!
First of all, thanks for making this amazing software.
I've installed the Mac 64bit version and tried it in my PS 2020.
At the first time, it worked well, but after that from the second time suddenly it disappeared in Save file types.
My PS showed this message and also I attached the captured images, please have a look and let me know if there is anyway to figure this out

“WebPShop.plugin” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.

Many thanks
