Spot

NOTICE: Spot is not actively developed and remains little more than a proof of concept!

Spot is a minimal, lightweight, cross-platform, standalone, console Spotify client, written in Go. It is really not ready for primetime unless primetime involves not being feature complete and crashing.

Installing

I plan to issue releases for different platforms. Until then, you'll have to compile yourself 💩

Compiling

Requirements

• libao, consult your nearest package manager
• libspotify, available from the hästens mouth here or in your package manager or choice (probably)
• A libspotify application key, available here for Spotify premium users. You might want the 'c code' option so as to copy and paste the hex byte values (see below)

Instructions

• go get github.com/wlcx/spot (assuming you have a Go dev environment)
• make an appkey variable available in the main package, I do so with a file appkey.go:

• script/install
• Run $GOPATH/bin/spot
• Recieve stack trace up in yo face
• I told you it wasn't finished

spot's Issues

End of Track is sometimes not detected

The elapsed timer keeps going too, seemingly in 2sec intervals. Needs investigation.

Investigate using web API to provide missing libspotify features

Libspotify is neglected and lacking new spotify features like "My Music". The spotify web api is the new poster child for Spotify dev, perhaps we should use it.

Save state on quit/resume

Another nice feature from cmus: save the current playstate on exit, and resume on next launch.

Cache in a sensible, os-dependent place

Currently spot just caches in tmp in the folder it was launched in

Check tracks for playability and display this accordingly
