The Workman layout site has been revived at http://workmanlayout.org/), though it does not include the blog.
I learned Workman using https://www.keybr.com/, so I can verify that particular site's effectiveness.

Try this site (and make sure to select Workman; I think it uses QWERTY by default). There's a few different settings - the default one repeats the same word over and over, and other settings provide full sentences. The site tells you where all the keys are and which one you need to press next. You'll be really slow at first and it'll take at least a few weeks to get to a reasonable speed. I don't know if there's a guide specifically for Workman, though - the site I linked to can work with any layout.

The best way to learn it is a cold-turkey cutover. Just start using it and don't go back. The drills are practice in case you don't have some other real work you could be typing. For the first month, you'll practically go insane with frustration. The second month you might be at a point where you're not yelling at and smashing your keyboard anymore. By the third month

  1. you'll be so into it, you won't even remember to evangelize it anymore
  2. you'll be looking at a different layout like Asset, Colemak, Norman, Colman, Qwpr, etc
  3. back on QWERTY

There is an article about a touch type learning tool that works with Workman:
http://www.workmanlayout.com/blog/?p=752

That and the site mentioned above helped me a lot and made it a lot less frustrating to switch.
It's really useful to start with the basic exercises and do the random character exercises to really learn and ingrain the key locations.

Right:

  • Practice for hours and hours using any online typing software.
  • Focus on learning each letter very well before trying a new one. No more than 4 new letters per day.
  • When you're not at a computer and have free time, practice in your head. Look at words around you (or think of words) and imagine typing them.
  • DO NOT use any other keyboard if you can help it. If there's work you need to do on a computer, do your input by handwriting on a tablet until you learn Workman well enough to use it for work.

The page http://www.workmanlayout.com is not working anymore, but archive.org has it saved https://web.archive.org/web/20160915170450/http://www.workmanlayout.com/blog/?p=752 Take a look in the "Recent Posts" section below the blog entry, there are multiple other ways to learn Workman listed.
