and don't fork/daemonize.

Standard UNIX stuff :)

Then supervisor can take care of spawning,
respawning and logging!

It's basically a Python init :)

supervisord it seems a matter of setting up stdout as much as anything else.

I've added support for upstart, so it now behaves in the way you've said here, and I have candidate deb packaging for ubuntu.
