I was reading the following in the source code:

Has this actually been resolved? Is there something extra I can do on my side to ensure that it will never happen? For example, i tried to re-load the driver before every vpn connection, but I didn't see better results.

What i notice is that after many continuous connects/disconnects, at some point, when i use the ipconfig tool to set dhcp to the vpn adapter, the ipconfig never returns. Even if i kill the ipconfig task, and try to use my vpn adapter again, it seems that it's unresponsive and the only way to fix it is with a system reboot. Also, when this happens, if i try to unload the tun/tap kexts, they are in use, even though i killed all related processes.

In some cases, even ifconfig will get stuck when it tries to list the network adapters after the above situation has occurred.

My OS is Yosemite but I have seen it in El Capitan as well.

Of course, there is also the possibility that the reason behind this is not the race condition but something totally different :)
