bandai-namco-research-motiondataset's Introduction

Bandai-Namco-Research-Motiondataset

This repository provides motion datasets collected by Bandai Namco Research Inc.

Find here for a README in Japanese.

There is a long-standing interest in making diverse stylized motions for games and movies that pursue realistic and expressive character animation; however, creating new movements that include all the various styles of expression using existing methods is difficult. Due to this, Motion Style Transfer (MST) has been drawing attention recently, which aims to convert the motion in a clip with a given content into another motion in a different style, while keeping the same content. A motion is composed of a content and style, where content is the base of the motion and style comprises of the attributes such as mood and personality of the character tied to the motion.

The datasets contain a diverse range of contents such as daily activities, fighting, and dancing; with styles such as active, tired, and happy. These can be used as training data for MST models. The animation below shows examples of visualized motions.

Currently, two datasets are available in this repository and are both located under the dataset directory.

  • Bandai-Namco-Research-Motiondataset-1 (Details)
    • 17 types of wide-range contents including daily activities, fighting, and dancing.
    • 15 styles that include expression variety.
    • A total of 36,673 frames.

  • Bandai-Namco-Research-Motiondataset-2 (Details)
    • 10 types of content mainly focusing on locomotion and hand actions.
    • 7 styles that use a single, uniform expression.
    • A total of 384,931 frames.

You can find a sample script for visualization (using Blender) including step-by-step instructions under the utils directory. Please see here for details.

Data Collection

Each dataset is based on the motion of three professional actors, collected at the motion capture studio of Bandai Namco. We applied post-processing such as noise removal, proportion alignment, and clipping; and saved in BVH format.

bandai-namco-research-motiondataset's Issues

Gimbal lock

There is gimbal lock in each and every animation with a turn.
I can't make a cycle out of it.
Can it be fixed?

data split

Hi,

I was wondering do you have default data split?

Best

Data is not open-source

I haven't looked at any of the data yet, because I saw the license and looked it up - CC-BY-NC-ND is "look but don't touch" closed-source. Concretely, it is:
a) not open source, and
b) considered to be dangerous ("NC option is a dangerous trap") [1] by the Open Source Initiative [2], who define the rules for what validly constitutes open-source (the "Open Source Definition" [3]).

I plead with you to please reconsider your choice of license.

Thank you,
Yewnyx

Videos.zip is referenced in both readme files, but seems to have been omitted in the actual folders.

How to cite the dataset properly?

Hi,

Thank you for sharing the dataset and I would like to know how to properly cite this dataset for a research paper or thesis article.

Walking velocity

Hi,
Thanks for sharing these data.
Is it possible to know the walking velocity? For example, the walking velocity of the subject of the dataset:

  • dataset\Bandai-Namco-Research-Motiondataset-1\data\dataset-1_walk_normal_001.bvh

Thank you

T pose

Hi, @m3-takahashi ,
Could you please tell me how to generate the T pose of this dataset?
Thanks very much.

Dog motion capture?

Sorry if this is a little off topic for the repo but I am trying reproduce a paper that used Dog motion capture from your research studio.

Mode-Adaptive Neural Networks for Quadraped Motion"

It references Namco-Bandai as the source of it's motion capture. Any chance of releasing it? There is lots of Humanoid motion capture out there but quadrupeds are very difficult to get for anyone doing research with them.

In the mean time is there a process to get access for research purposes?
