General course info for COMP 426

We will use this repository to raise issues and discuss general information about COMP 426, as well as procedures, policies, tools, and other general concerns.

This README will be expanded as needed to include support information based on issues raised.

Other general information will be added to this repository as needed.

Issues

1. Please create issues for general inquiries about the structure of this course.
2. Assignment-specific issues need to be created in the appropriate assignment starter code template repository.
3. Any assignment-specific issue created here will be transferred by one of the instructional staff to the appropriate repo.

OFFICE HOURS FOR WEEK OF APRIL 25

Please note that this schedule is different from the regular hours schedule

IMPORTANT: Please create assignment issues BEFORE you come to office hours and place the link to your posted issue in MDH when you add yourself to the queue so that we can reference it immediately. This will help up to address helping you with the assignments much more efficiently and effectively.

During the week of April 25, due to high demand, if you have not created an issue or posted a link to it when you add yourself to the queue in MDH, you will be asked to do so and returned to the queue while you do. Thank you for complying with this request.

Not currently a team member for a99

After the class announcement today I discovered the teams section of github for the first time and saw that I am not part of a team yet (which explains why I haven't been receiving/responding to any messages). I'm sorry that I haven't noticed this sooner, but I'm hoping to join a team and wanted to let someone know that I don't have one right now. Thanks!

Downloading programs help

Posted this in the a00 issues but wanted to post it here to just in case.
We downloaded similar programs for comp211 and other comp classes, so I'm having trouble figuring out which stuff I already have and which stuff I still need. For the things I know I need, I can't seem to download them because I keep getting told "command not found" when I use "sudo."

The link to add myself to the organization doesn't do anything

Does this mean I'm already a part of the organization?

Was note placed in a group

I don't believe I was placed in a group for the group project. Was I supposed to do something to be placed in a group? Thank you!

Recording for 03/10 Lecture

I was wondering if the lecture from the last Thursday before spring break will be uploaded to Panopto anytime soon. I was trying to watch it before attending lecture tomorrow.

Hello, I am trying to enroll in myDigitalHand but it keeps saying I need to verify my email. The issue is that I am not getting an email to do so. Is there any way someone could manually enroll me into the course on MyDigitalHand?

Grades not showing on Sakai

I'm not sure if they have not been posted, but my grades aren't on Sakai yet. Also, my GH "name" in package.json isn't passing either on the midterm autograder so this might be an internal accounting issue where my GitHub account isn't linked to the grader/sakai or something else...

My Digital hand raising

My MDH is not responding. When I submit the Get Help Now questionnaire,my hand stays down and when I click Get Help now again it shows my previous answers. I also tried to update my tagline and my profile pictures, and none of that updated. Is there any tips for this.

Github extensions not working on VS Code

When I go to VS Code my github tab doesn't render anything, so I can't see the tests or assignments or essentially anything related to github. I was able to push and commit but for a while the autograder bot kept committing throughout the night but it seemed to have stopped. I have tried uninstalling, disabling & reenabling the extensions, and restarting my computer but it has not worked. Here is what it currently looks like:

I was trying to join the course for myDigitalHand but it said I needed to verify my email. However, I never received this email to verify. Is there any way someone could verify me manually?

npm init a00 error

I get the error "/usr/bin/env: ‘bash\r’: No such file or directory" when I run npm init. I have gotten this error on three separate devices after following the installation process on the website.

Recordings for last week's lectures

I was unable to attend to last week's lectures and I was planning to watch them asynchronously. However, neither the 03/01 nor the 03/03 are posted on panapto. Will they be eventually uploaded?

Can't access GitHub Classroom

An error message of "You are forbidden from performing this action on github.com" pops up when trying to join the classroom through the provided link. Tried signing out and in and clearing cache.

MDH enrollment link does not work

Unfortunately, clicking on the enrollment link/entering the url (https://mydigitalhand.org/enrollment/30895) in the browser gives me and @ Gillian Zech this page for forever:

There's nothing logged to the browser console, so I'm not sure what is the issue.

I have also tried enrolling by simply searching for the class, but I do not have a valid entry code:

Would it be possible for us to obtain an entry code for the course? Thank you!

Final Submission

Hello, my final exam repo is taking longer than 15 minutes for the autograder to complete, is this an issue that I should be able to fix? Or should I wait it out. Thanks!

Cannot access secrets repo, despite being member of comp426-2022-spring organization

Despite being a member of the organization since a few hours ago, I and a couple other classmates (Harin Kim, Gillian Zech -- I would tag them, but I do not have permissions to do so) still cannot access the secrets repo. We receive a "Page not found" error.

Has the link to it/permissions changed, or is this another case of GitHub needing some time to process our new permissions?

I also cannot assign labels, assignees, etc, nor can I reopen issues (though the latter issue seems to be a common one) -- hence the new issue pertaining to #1 (and #6) .

which command does not work

If I try running the which command on my terminal, I get this error:

which : The term 'which' is not recognized as the name of a cmdlet, function, script file, or operable program. Check the spelling of the name, or if a path was included, verify that the path is correct and try again.

Github commits

Since the number of mandatory assignments has decreased by 2, is there any way that the number of commits we should have can decrease

Git not working correctly

Tried to push my changes and it gave me this:

I tried logging in and out of Github and even deleting my credentials from Windows Credentials with the hope of reentering in my credentials but I continue to get this same error except now my git credentials are not even in Windows Credentials. Don't really understand what's going wrong and I don't want to do anything else in order to prevent anything from getting worse.
