Isn't this expected considering it uses a different save path? ($HOME/.dhewm3 not $HOME/.doom3)
Doesn't Windows save the actual cd key in the %appdata% path somewhere and NOT the main doom 3 installation? Are you copying the wrong files over?

I have key files with keys where they belong - in the user dir e.g. My Games\dhewm3\base\ and in the base\ next to binaries.

Try putting your d3key and xpkey files in $HOME/.config/dhewm3/base

Windows has no $HOME/.config

I apologize, thought you were under Linux. I don't think dhewm3 reads the keyfiles in the base folder next to the binaries. I'm not too sure retail doom 3 saves them there either but only have placeholders in place. Also make sure that the key file has your key in it and is not blank. As I said before try going to the dhewm3 save folder. Thought it was under %appdata% but dhewm3's savepath for Windows is /My Games/dhewm3/base. Try putting your keyfiles there instead of the binary path. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

No problem. I already did that.
I copied key files from my install folder to dhewm3's user folder (My Games\dhewm3\base).

The issue might be that old keys are no longer valid? (since Doom 3 is on Steam now and has it's own keyfiles, most likely the same for every user, due to Steam having its own authentication mechanism)

I'm not sure what's going on. I've had a few ideas but none of them are working to fix this. Only thing I can think of now is the id auth server wants to be able to read your key on a 'new installation' to verify it. Only getting rid of the auth server has fixed this for me and I don't think that is a real option.

I simply disabled CDKey check, and I don't get why dhewm3 has it enabled. I wouldn't be surprised if people will "meh" dhewm3 because no one will be able to run it, unless they re-enter CDKeys (I am not even sure if that will work either).
