nordic's Issues

Dark Polar Variant

Hello :)

First of all great work on this theme. Alot of fans of the nord color palette are desperately waiting for a decent native nord gtk theme. I love the dark variant so far. Do you think it's possible to make a Polar version of the dark variant? The polar highlighting colors look perfect :)

If necessary I would offer my help too.

Folder icon

Hi, thanks for your great work on this theme.

I noticed that there are some updated pictures on the Nordic theme series on gnome-look.org, e.g., https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1267246/. The folder icons in these pictures look very nice and match the color of the gtk theme. I am wondering where we can download the folder icons. The Nordic-Folders.tar.xz file on gnome-look.org seems pretty old and does not contain the folder icons in the pictures.

Icon Theme Used in Demo

Hi there!

Love the theme, using it now! One question though, which icon theme did you use in the demo? I would like to use that one as well.

Thanks in Advance!

Button Highlighting Issue

For certain selected button elements, it is not showing any highlights to indicate that the button is being selected... such as:

image

Notice for scale, both 100% and 200% have the same color indicator. 100% is selected but it is not being highlighted.

OS: Manjaro 18.0.4

Desktop text grey

Nice Theme.
I just installed it on Manjaro Budgie. Overall it looks nice, but there is a problem with text color for desktop icons.

Padding issue in nautilus

Hey, love your theme. I have a small issue on GNOME 3.32. Not sure if other versions are affected.

Wrong padding around the home button in Nautilus.

When you have more than two folders in the navigation bar, and you hover the home button, it moves into place.

Theme parsing error in bluish accent

I was experimenting with using zenity in some shell scripts and received the following errors while using Nordic-bluish-accent:

(zenity:12027): Gtk-WARNING **: 08:22:56.171: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:4053:0: Expected semicolon
(zenity:12027): Gtk-WARNING **: 08:22:56.171: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:4057:0: Expected a valid selector

I think it has to do with the comment/fix for Pantheon. The normal (greenish) theme does not have this. Thanks for a great theme.

Contrast on gnome-shell texts

Hello @EliverLara, 1st of all, i think your theme is fantastic, i simply loved it, but just 1 thing that bothers me is the lack of contrast with some of gnome-shell entries, as you can see on screenshots. I'd like to know if its possible to change the color for those, thanks a lot!!!

Description of notifications are barely visible

Captura de pantalla
Here the color of the text in the notification description is black and thus barely visible.
All variations of the theme are like this. It would be nice that it was another color.
(The colors are a bit different in the picture because of the color correction profile of my display)

Add openbox

It would be very nice to have openbox themed too.

Installation script

It would be nice to have a script to build and install the themes from source.

Theme parsing error

In issue #32 I reported a problem with parsing due to '<<...<<HEAD'. I just noticed the same problem in bluish-accent-with-standard-buttons/gtk-3.0/gtk.css. Thanks for a great theme.

Folder icons not change

I am currently using Ubuntu 19 and my folder icons do not change. Are there any additional steps to change icons?

Some of the menu buttons are invisible.

With the current Nordic theme on GTK 3.32, some of the menu icons for some of the applications are very hard to see. The image is an example for gvim.

This also happens for libreoffice suites.

Problem with Ubuntu Mate 18.10 with all of your themes.

Hello.I also commented in your Sweet theme and you told me to post here. The problem is this : I install the theme via Appearance (mate's tool), but when i use the specific theme it says : This theme will not look as intended because the required window manager theme "Theme name" is not installed..following up with a question mark icon in the Appearance tab. I also tried installing some of your themes manually but the problem persists. If i use Window Borders from another theme, it will work just fine but that ruins the feeling of having your whole theme package installed.

Some applications have the wrong buttons

From what I see right now the following windows have the wrong window-buttons: Gnome-Terminal, Firefox, keepassxc
They use what looks like the standard-buttons while other windows have the round colored buttons.

Black border of icons

Hi, first of all thank You for the work you have done. It is for far best theme I have ever used.
To achieve perfection I need to know how to change two things:

  1. How can I remove black border around applets icons? I was checking css files but with no effect, also there are two files gtk.css and gtk-dark.css, which one should I edit?
  1. Sometimes fields in Firefox aren't contrasting with text, any idea how can I solve it?
    EDIT: I found out that this is releated to Firefox, it is know issue for 19 years :D

Thank You once again and looking forward to Your reply.

How to install?

I've extracted Nordic.tar.xz to ~/.themes but where do the standard-buttons and folders packages go?

OpenWeather

Please look at OpenWeather (gnome shell widget), its appearance doesn't look good (not clear)

Weird things in Nautilus

Hi, I use Nordic in Gnome 3.30. I don't know how to explain this bug, but sometimes, when Nautilus is unfocused happen this:
schermata da 2018-11-19 20-55-24

Some minor bug

Can't see the previous page button on firefox 62
capture du 2018-10-18 18-05-21

A minor bug who display a black background on the search box on Google during a few seconds and disappear after the page has loaded (Nordic theme only)(can't record it sorry :/)

The check box and scroll bar are black, I don't know if it's normal or not but it's not very pretty (Nordic theme and check a random bootstrap form)
capture du 2018-10-18 18-13-04

however, very beautiful theme :)

Option to follow the actual nord color scheme

For some reason, this theme switches the nord colors nord0 and nord1. This makes it look out of place with other applications using nord.

From _.nord.scss in this project:

// Copyright (c) 2016-present Arctic Ice Studio <[email protected]>
// Copyright (c) 2016-present Sven Greb <[email protected]>
...
/// Base component color of "Polar Night".
///
/// Used for texts, *backgrounds*, carets and structuring characters like curly- and square brackets.
...
$nord0: #2e3440;

As you can see, nord0 is clearly meant to be used as the background color. However, this theme uses nord1 as the background color, while that clearly is meant to be used as the background color for secondary UI elements:

/// Lighter shade color of the base component color.
///
/// Used as a *lighter background color for UI elements like status bars*.
///
...
$nord1: #3b4252;

Why the switch up? Do you have instructions on how to switch nord1 and nord0, or could you make an option to switch them (maybe keep the current theme the "light" theme, and make the one that follows the actual nord colors the "dark" theme) ?

Lots of GTK warnings kill my terminal

When I'm starting gvim from a terminal, I get a lot of GTK garbage warnings that effectively kill my terminal (I use terminator). Output example:

Light grey text on white background in Geary

Geary is nearly unusable with Nordic due to light grey on white background. I've tried another dark theme (solarized dark) and Geary works well with it so I believe it's related to Nordic.

menu bar and folder icon sugestion

hi, thanks for this cool theme my OS is
xubuntu 19.10
thunar 1.8.9 (gtk3)

i make a little edit for my personal use in gtk-3.0/gtk.css, gtk-3.0/gtk-3.0/gtk-dark.css in line 2889 and change the value background-color: #353c4a; which are menubar properties for gtk3+ apps like thunar and transmission.
i also make change in files gtkrc in line 17 to gtk-color-scheme = "sidebar_bg:#2e3440\ntitlebar_bg_color:#353c4a" and main.rc in line1498 to bg[NORMAL] = @titlebar_bg_color inside folder gtk-2.0 to make menubar color also changed in gtk2 apps like smplayer (qt app with gtk+ style), audacious and gpick.

so instead menubar follow the color of app background, it follow the color of window button like screenshot below
Screenshot_2020-02-02_20-32-33

also since nordic folder icon look similar to papirus, maybe you can make symbolic icon for side-pane (sidebar) like that too

Request: nordic/nordic-kde debs and a PPA

For Debian-based system it would be very useful if these were packaged in a deb rather than requiring manual installation of all the different parts, both for initial setup and for keeping up-to-date. Publishing these debs in a PPA would be extra useful.

Wallpaper is in bad resolution

I absolutely love that wallpaper of the mountains, but when i checked it in the files of the theme, it was in a terrible resolution. Please, update Nordic with the wallpaper in good resolution, Nordic theme would be much better if the users could have access to the wallpaper.

Poor contrast on highlight

Generally this theme looks very well, especially with Newaita icons but I noticed some places with not enough contrast for text to be clearly readable. E.g. in Geary selected message with light highlight and white text isn't visible enough. In Pamac selected item could have a little bit more contrast too.

Nordic - Geary Nordic - Pamac
screenshot from 2018-11-20 20-56-35 screenshot from 2018-11-20 20-56-57

I compared this to Qogir theme that I was using before:

Qogir - Geary Qogir - Pamac
screenshot from 2018-11-20 21-01-07 screenshot from 2018-11-20 21-02-48

Please notice that Qogir uses different color for rich-text item highlight.

Opinions may vary so a very simple generation/installation script (like in some themes) could be helpful to select base color(s). For example I would likely to choose nord10 instead of nord7 as an accent/highlight color.

Some kind of "brightness multiplier" for background colors (something like Sass's darken() func) would be also cool because I think this theme is just a bit too light.

Lack of contrast with Chromium download UI

There is not enough contrast in the downloads interface in Chromium for text to be clearly visible. I assume that the background is intended to be darker, hence the lighter text. However, since it isn't, the text is not clearly visible.

Chromium lack of contrast

I have noticed that other dark themes seem to have this issue with Chromium as well, so I won't be surprised if fixing this requires some change within Chromium itself (possibly a custom theme specifically for it).

The issue seems to have appeared in relation to a recent update to Chromium, so if it is helpful, I am using version 73.0.3683.75.

Nautilus window focus change bugs out sidebar icons

Losing focus on the Nautilus window will cause the sidebar to bug out. Specifically the background on the icons in the sidebar.

Blurry minimize/maximize/close buttons

image image
Hi! Thank you for the nice theme, it integrates nicely with other Nordified applications!

I am experiencing a minor issue though: the minimize/maximize/close buttons seem blurrier than they should be (in contrast, the images in the assets folder seem perfectly crisp to me).

Any idea what could be causing this?

Problem Ubuntu 18.10

Hi,
Love your theme but there is a problem with Ubuntu 18.10. There is invisible fonts in notifications in Unity’s Panel, all use the same color and messages are not in white color so is impossible to read.

Search results missing

Replaced usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/Yaru with the gnome-shell folder. This had the effect of showing no apps when I tried searching for something on the application finder.

Running Ubuntu 19.10 and GNOME 3.34.

Elementary OS Support

Is It possible make this theme compatible with Pantheon Shell the elementary OS desktop environment?
