If there are JS scripts from b.com on the site a.com.
Can noscripts just block the scripts(may be for ADs) on a.com, and when I goo
b.com, the scripts are not blocked for a fully-functioned b.com's page?
For example
BAIDU's AD JS scripts come directly from www.baidu.com,
If the JS is blocked, the http://www.baidu.com fails to work partly.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Unknown. A few users have reported this problem but I have not been able to
replicate the problem on my machines.
The problem is that for some users, they get "Are you sure you want to leave
this page?" pop ups after upgrading to NotScripts V0.9.5. It is caused by the
new inline script mitigation.
A fix has already been implemented in the next major version of NotScripts
(V0.9.6) by nulling the window.onbeforeload pointer instead of setting it to an
anonymous function that returns an empty string.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. install Chromium 8.0.552.224 (68599) Ubuntu 10.10 (the latest one)
2. install NotScripts 0.9.6 (the latest one) and set password
3. open an incognito window (Chromium → Ctrl+Shift+N)
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Instead of seeing the NotScripts button in the omnibox of the incognito window,
scripts are just allowed globally. Disabling Javascripts in the built-in
Chromium options menu would, however, apply to normal (non-incognito) windows
as well, resulting in not being able to allow scripts by using the NotScripts
menu.

NotScripts 0.9.6 (the latest one) on Chromium 8.0.552.224 (68599) Ubuntu 10.10

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open several sites, keep notscripts at defaults
2. At notscripts menu keep the Multi page (at the top) option unchecked
3. ...and choose to Temporarily allow all the shown content
Only the actual page should be refreshed (and with temporary allowed content).
But actually all the tabs are refreshed (again, with 'Multipage' unchecked),
meaning -in my case- that all those tabs are now running javascript at full
speed and eating copious ammounts of memory.
I'm running Opera 11 @ Windows XP
I should be able to just allow content to one site, not obligatorily in all of
them or none.
Thank you.

When I enter a new site that has scripts; I'm supposed to decide what to do
solely on the domain name of each of these script references. Sorry, but that
ain't good enough.
Many domains provide service for a great many users, not in the least cloud
services such as AWS, cloudfront, etc. NotScripts turns that into an "all" or
"nothing", where "all" gives you what you need and compromises the entire
purpose of this plugin (now any untrusted site can load scripts from AWS) and
"nothing" breaks my site, effectively defeating the ability for me to be able
to selectively allow scripting on the site.
Aside from that, there also isn't enough information about what I'm blocking or
allowing. Conclusion, I'll just allow all on every site that breaks for me,
just to get it to work.
For this plugin to be any kind of reliably useful, you need more information
per script and the ability to achieve better/more fine grained
blocking/allowing. And, please find a way to let users do this without
sacrificing the simplicity of your UI.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. With NotScripts running, go to http://t.sina.com.cn/meiting
2. Whitelist the scripts for the site or globally allow all.
3. Click on a picture to zoom in, then click it again to zoom out.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The expected output is that the pictures zoom in and out with NotScripts
running and the site whitelisted. However, the pictures disappear after zooming
out. I have tested this on both Chrome 6 stable and Chrome 7 dev with Windows
XP SP3 and Windows 7. Both show the same bug.
I have given a brief look at the javascript and HTML for pages on
http://t.sina.com.cn. I have also debugged it with NotScripts and have narrowed
the cause down to the code line in the file blockStart.js of NotScripts:
document.addEventListener("beforeload", blockScripts, true);
This is the event listener that enables NotScripts to block third-party scripts
by pointing to the function blockScripts and capturing the beforeLoad events
(true). However, changing blockScripts to an empty function and/or changing
true to false has no effect on the disappearing images. It appears that this
may be a bug in Google Chrome itself when listening to beforeLoad events.
I will have to take a more detailed look and possibly file a bug report with
Chromium once I narrow down what specifically in the Sina code is being
affected.

NotScripts prevents the use of bookmarklets even when all the sites are
allowed. The bookmarklet only works when all items are allowed globally.
1. Load any website
2. Add a bookmarklet, such as Aardvark:
javascript:document.getElementsByTagName('head')%5B0%5D.appendChild(document.cre
ateElement('script')).setAttribute('src','http://www.karmatics.com/aardvark/book
marklet.js')
3. Allow each sites (not globally, but every single of them)
4. Use the bookmarklet
Also:
1. Open a blank tab
2. Use the bookmarklet
3. There is no quick/fancy way to allow it to run since the NotScripts menu is
empty
It should by default allow bookmarklets even when nothing is allowed, or at the
very least provide to the user a way to allow or deny scripts launched from
within the browser (such as bookmarklets) without going to the whitelist and
figure out what append to the list.

The fact that notscripts effectuates script blocking changes to background
tabs, although otherwise rather awesome, could insidiously exacerbate this
issue, since it may end up erasing form data from pages without the user even
realizing it at the time.
A warning to the user that form data will be lost might constitute an effective
stopgap measure until more thorough action can be taken to remedy this issue.

From http://optimalcycling.com/other-projects/notscripts/limitations/
[1] Blocking Deprecated <APPLET></APPLET> Elements
NotScripts can block plugins like Flash and Silverlight. However, Java applets
are a special case. Java applets embedded with the standard <EMBED></EMBED> or
<OBJECT></OBJECT> tags can be blocked, but Java applets embedded with the old,
deprecated <APPLET></APPLET> tags cannot be blocked because Google Chrome does
not fire load events for this legacy method. The current workaround is to
disable Java in your browser until this can be fixed.
[2] Inline Scripts
All scripts loaded from a source location (the vast majority) can be blocked.
However, inline scripts that are directly written into the HTML code of a web
page cannot be blocked by NotScripts because Google Chrome does not fire load
events for them.
For example: <script src=”http://example.com/aScriptFile.js”></script> can
be blocked without any issues. However, <script>alert(“Hello,
World!”);</script> written directly into the HTML code by the site you are
visiting cannot be blocked by NotScripts because it is not loaded from
anywhere, it is a direct part of the web page you view.

NotScripts extension still allows many scripts to execute, for example
“onclick” on links, onchange on select, and most of all, it lets all the
scripts to execute if the page is loaded from cache.
Test case:
open mediamenu.sk
if you are loading the first time, notice that the right orange-grey category
menu is fully expanded. This is the correct state with all JS blocked.
Bug 1: click on the “vyroba reklamy” first orange category. Notice the menu
is still expanded, which is good, it means it’s script was not executed. Now
notice that in the middle category listing there is a pager that looks like
Stránka: 1 z 5 >>. Now clicking on the links OR choosing from the select box
actually executes the corresponding onclick/onchange script.
Bug 2: now click on the mediamenu logo at the top of the page. Notice the
categories are fully collapsed (js has executed), and also notice that clicking
on them will invoke category javascript and load the category listing through
ajax.
To temporarily “fix” bug 2, reload the page using F5. For bug 1, there is
no solution I am aware of.
If you need more info or test cases, please contact me by email. Running latest
opera 11 on fedora 14 64-bit, latest NotScripts.

OS: Linux Mint 9 KDE Edition, 32-bit
Please provide any additional information below.
Output of "/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.22/jre/bin/java -version" (path for
the version of Java enabled in Chrome):
java version "1.6.0_22"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_22-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 17.1-b03, mixed mode, sharing)
It worked fine in Chrome 6.
Checking the Java installation on java.com after allowing both java.com and
sun.com in NotScripts works just fine.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. As an example, try commenting on a video on Youtube
2. With Scripts enabled for the site, click in the comment box
3. Notice that the "descriptive text" in the comment box is not automatically
replaced when you click and start typing.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It should overwrite the descriptive text with the comment you're typing, but it
instead just tacks it onto the end.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
NotScripts Version 0.9.6
Google Chrome 7.0.517.36 beta
Windows 7 Professional
Please provide any additional information below.
In my own troubleshooting efforts, it is possible that this is an issue with
Chrome, since when I view Youtube through IE Tab, I am able to comment as I
should.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install NotScripts
2. NotScripts will nag about not having a password, as well as about having a
password that is too short.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect a password mask, where I can put in a password of any length I want
(pad the password to get it to the required length if you must).
What I get instead is a page with instructions on how to set up a password in
some God-forsaken corner of my computer's file system.
Adding insult to injury, this site is white text on black background (which'll
be fun for those of us who set the OS default to high-contrast, because they
are visually impaired).
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Current version of NotScripts (apparently 0.9.6), on Chrome 6 for Win7 32bit

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install Google Mail Checker, Google Mail Checker Plus, or Google Mail
Checker Plus Classic
2. Install (or enable) NotScripts
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The two should not interfere with each other, but in fact, NotScripts appears
to prevent the extensions from polling for the newest e-mails.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm using Chrome Portable 7.0.517.41 on Windows.
Please provide any additional information below.
Added an exception to "chrome://extensions/". Did not seem to help.

I followed a link through an e-mail, and I believe that it somehow
automatically disabled notscript as it was functioning. Checking the
'extension' link through Chrome's menu, I found that it had been disabled.
Here's the link that I followed (warning: it's spam ... be careful)

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Using the switch --user-data-dir /path/to/profile when starting chromium (on
Linux)
2. Even though I copied my original profile (Default) to the new dir, I seemed
to have to reinstall all my extensions!?
3. Reinstalled Notscripts. Notscripts always complains that the password is not
set. The CHANGE_PASSWORD here file was a copy of the original and had a
password.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Even re-editing the password file doesn't stop not Notscripts complaining/

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Click the "Allow All Shown" button on a site where you already have some
scripts whitelisted using NotScripts V0.9.5.
2. Check the NotScripts whitelist in the Options page and you may see duplicate
entries for some of the sites you just allowed.
3. Other buttons are not affected, only the "Allow All Shown" button
NotScripts should not add duplicate entries when the "Allow All Shown" button
is used. The duplicates are removed if you use the main NotScripts drop down
menu to delist the site.
Normally, the "Allow All Shown" button is not used too frequently in practice.
This bug has already been fixed in the upcoming version of NotScripts (V0.9.6)
and it will also remove any duplicate entries.

Currently, when one enables eg Javascript for Facebook (thus *.facebook.com),
every other site that is using the facebook javascript toys will also suddenly
have active Javascript. Same for google, one might want to enable it for
maps.google.com, but not for every other site on the planet referring to those
scripts.
This thus does not directly have to do with not trusting the scripts, but with
the ability for the script owner to track you around the internet when other
sites also refer to their scripts.
Would be a really cool feature to have this, and make Notscripts better than
Noscript ;)
