On the home page, we are showing several news and event items. However, you cannot click-through to the content directly (i.e., you need to go to the News & Events page and click-through from that page). Is it possible to add click-through functionality from the home page?

Request updated French translations from our Canadian friends

We need to double-check the French translation of the terms pop-up in https://github.com/gbif/hp-north-america/blob/master/_data/translations.yml

Our team is starting to think ahead to "going live" once we finish implementing the Privacy Policy, Google Analytics, etc. The question came up about who would host our regioanl portal and what the domain would be.

We assume that GBIF will host our portal since we represent an official GBIF region. For now, we are assuming that the URL will be https://hp-north-america.gbif.org/ as shown on the GBIF Hosted Portals page, but we didn't know if there was any flexibility here.

We are creating this issue in an attempt to validate the above assumptions and get the conversation started.

The initial iterations of the Hosted Portals included Danish translations. Will these translations be updated or were they included only as examples? If the former, then what is the trigger for getting them updated (noting that we have more updates to make still)? If the latter, then I assume it is okay to delete Danish in an effort to clean up the file structures.

Will there eventually be translations available for the standard privacy policy?

It is a known issue that the data page needs translation. See gbif/hp-canadian-biodiversity#4 and gbif/hosted-portals#60.

I'm making an issue on this portal to facilitate communication. It would be ideal if the page language was passed-through to the GBIF data view.

I was looking at your portal and we liked the picture overflowing the menu bar and we want to try it out.

I search trou your .css and .js file and home files to 'steal' this design feature but I could find it, could you please point me to the code.

A suggestion: It will be useful to list "Mentors and Trainers" and "Open Data Ambassadors" for North America region rather than linking to GBIF pages.

Request updated Spanish translations from our friends at the GBIF Mexico node.

When you visit the News page, it is in English, but when you click in to any of the news stories, they change to French and the menus change to French. We need to track down the bug in the language structure.

Consider adding the GBIF mark as the favicon for the North America Region page (e.g., similar to how it appears on https://www.gbif.org/). However, we will need some guidance for how to implement this on the hosted portal.

It would be nice to enable Google Analytics for the hosted portal. I believe this is being discussed in the hosted-portals repository. Once the capability exists, we need to integrate the functionality into the North America Region portal. The data will help the steering group understand the usefulness of the portal.
